On May 8, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment held a conference to implement the Protocol on exporting bird's nests to China.
According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, after 4 years of implementing the 2022 Protocol, Vietnamese enterprises have gradually introduced "made in Vietnam" bird's nest products to the Chinese market.
To date, 13 Chinese enterprises have been approved and allowed to export bird's nest products to this market.
More than 4 tons of refined bird's nest and millions of bird's nest products were officially exported to China, worth more than 4 million USD.
China is the world’s largest consumer market for bird’s nests with high and stable demand. Opening this market helps Vietnamese businesses reach a huge number of potential customers, thereby boosting exports and increasing revenue.
However, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine also acknowledged that Vietnamese bird's nests entered the Chinese market more than 10 years after Malaysian and Indonesian bird's nests. Therefore, Chinese consumers do not know much about the Vietnamese bird's nest brand.
Cheap bird's nests from Malaysia and Indonesia are imported in large quantities into Vietnam, competing directly with Vietnamese bird's nests.
Raw bird's nest will be exported to China
In order to expand the range of exported bird's nest products, immediately after signing Decree 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) continued to negotiate to export bird's nest to China.
As a result, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the General Administration of Customs of China signed the Bird's Nest Export Protocol on April 15, 2025 (The Bird's Nest Protocol includes both clean and raw bird's nests and will replace the Protocol signed in 2022).
Opening the Chinese market to the Vietnamese bird's nest industry brings many important values.
By being present in China, Vietnamese businesses will have many opportunities to cooperate with large distributors, retailers and e-commerce platforms. This is also a stepping stone to expand to other markets in the region.
According to Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the signing of the new Protocol is an important step forward, helping the Vietnamese bird's nest industry exploit the full potential of this large market. It is important that businesses take advantage of the opportunity, improve product quality and promotional strategies to create a strong impression in the Chinese market.
