More than 1,600 customers lost power, the power grid suffered heavy losses.
According to statistics from Bac Kan Electricity Company, the floods have caused serious damage to the power grid system in the area. Specifically, the 35kV medium voltage grid had 14 poles broken at 12 locations, tilted and cracked at many points, including important transformer stations such as Dia Linh 4 and Yen Duong 5. More than 2,700m of conductors were scratched and damaged, 51 polymer chains and dozens of other auxiliary equipment were damaged.

At the 0.4kV low voltage level, a total of 75 power poles were broken and tilted. In addition, more than 200 electronic meters of various types and many meter boxes and remote measuring devices were also affected. As a result, 1,688 customers using electricity at 17 transformer stations lost power during the flood night.
Urgent repair in harsh conditions
On the night of May 17, Ba Be Power Company deployed an emergency response plan. Engineers and workers of the unit stayed up all night to check safety, isolate the incident and develop a plan to restore power to areas that were not severely affected. On the morning of May 18, the Company's leaders were directly present at the scene to direct the recovery work.
In particular, the Company mobilized a shock force of nearly 100 people from 07 district and city power units and the 110kV team, coordinated with contractors working in the area, and synchronously deployed many emergency solutions such as erecting temporary poles, switching circuits, and load balancing... Thanks to that, as of May 22, 1,185 customers had their power restored, reducing the number of households without power to 503.
Difficulty between weather and complex terrain
The biggest difficulty in the recovery process is the fragmented terrain and severe landslides at many points, making access to the site extremely difficult. The rain continues, slowing down the progress of transporting materials, equipment and implementing the construction. However, with great determination, the construction teams still work day and night, taking turns to ensure safety and progress.
By the end of May 22, a series of important items had been completed such as: digging and casting foundations, rebuilding dozens of electric poles, installing accessories, stretching wires, adjusting sag... Transformer stations such as Yen Duong 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 have been re-energized. It is expected that within 5 days after the natural disaster, the entire power grid system in the affected area will be restored to stability.

"Don't let people lack electricity for too long"
Speaking at an emergency meeting at the scene, Mr. Do Tien Hung, Director of Bac Kan Electricity Company emphasized: “We consider this an urgent and vital task in the context of natural disasters. The spirit is not to let people lack electricity for too long, despite facing numerous difficulties in weather, traffic and technology.”
According to Mr. Hung, the Company is conducting a detailed damage assessment to plan for long-term investment and repair and to prevent similar risks in the future. At the same time, the Electricity industry will continue to monitor weather developments and increase periodic inspections of the power grid in vulnerable terrain areas such as Ba Be, Pac Nam, Ngan Son, etc.

Floods are a big challenge, but it is also the time when the sense of responsibility and urgent participation of the Bac Kan electricity industry is clearly demonstrated. The image of orange-shirted workers covered in mud, working in the rain and wind, next to collapsed electric poles... is not only a symbol of the industry but also an affirmation: "Electricity devotes itself to bringing light to the people".
In the coming time, Bac Kan Electricity Company will continue to improve the recovery work, at the same time learn from experience, improve disaster prevention capacity, respond faster and more effectively in all emergency situations. This is not only the responsibility of the industry, but also a commitment to nearly 90,000 electricity customers across the province./.
