It is this desire for self-improvement that illuminates the value, responsibility and pride of the teaching profession.

Never stop learning to affirm value

In the context of education changing strongly in the face of the development of science and technology, continuous learning is no longer an option, but has become an inevitable requirement for every teacher.

Teacher Trang Minh Thien - Nguyen Viet Dung High School ( Can Tho City) believes that regularly updating new knowledge, especially digital achievements and artificial intelligence, helps teachers access active and modern teaching methods.

This is not only a way to affirm the professional capacity and position of teachers in the knowledge society, but also a driving force for innovation, helping lectures become more lively and attractive, stimulating students' interest in learning. At the same time, the process of self-study and training also helps teachers renew themselves, meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program and the digital transformation process in the education sector.

Teachers can learn through professional activities in the direction of lesson research; participate in regular training courses on LMS and MOOC systems; exploit digital learning resources, as well as apply artificial intelligence (AI) in lesson design, learning analysis and professional skill development.

Besides, participating in professional communities of the Department of Education and Training, or study groups from projects organized by universities are also effective forms of learning, helping teachers share experiences and update new methods.

However, the self-study process still has many difficulties. According to Mr. Thien, the difference in information technology level and self-study ability between teachers in different regions makes access to digital learning materials still limited. Many training contents are still theoretical, not really helping teachers solve practical problems in teaching.

Some teachers are still afraid of innovation, afraid of not being able to keep up or being confused when applying new things. In addition, the pressure of documents, professional targets and family life also significantly affects the time and motivation for self-study of each teacher.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Huy - Ea Trol Primary & Secondary School (Song Hinh, Dak Lak ), continuous learning and lifelong learning are among the core qualities of teachers, especially in today's era of rapidly developing technology. Continuous learning helps teachers not to fall behind; helps teaching hours become more lively, practical, closer, and easier to understand.

More importantly, teachers who constantly self-study will be a living example for students to follow. There are many rich channels to help teachers self-study, such as professional books, digital resources, online courses, experience sharing forums, etc. More direct and practical are professional activities in clusters of schools, inter-schools, so that teachers can exchange and learn together.

“I believe that lifelong learning is not only to teach better, but also to live a better life with the profession. Every time I attend a training class, attend a training session, observe a colleague, or learn new teaching tools, I feel like I “renew” myself; from the way I approach lessons, being more flexible in methods, designing activities to the way I listen to students, being closer to students…”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Huy shared.

However, Ms. Huy also worries because the journey of self-study is not always easy. In rural mountainous areas, physical facilities are limited, teaching aids are not synchronized. Teachers' time is also limited due to the large workload. Many teachers have to take advantage of every hour to read documents, prepare lessons, and get used to technology. However, as long as they maintain enthusiasm and passion for the profession, all difficulties can be overcome.

Ms. Huy hopes that educational management levels will continue to create conditions for teachers to receive professional training and further personal development, and that there should be more flexible and effective forms of training... In addition, encouraging, recognizing, honoring, and motivating teachers' spirit of learning and creativity is also a great motivation for each teacher to be more confident, dedicated, and enthusiastic about the profession in a land with many difficulties.

Firm belief and confidence

According to Mr. Tran Van Hieu - Vice Principal of Xuan Truong Primary School (Xuan Truong, Ninh Binh), the development of media and the speed of information spreading on social networking sites are creating great pressure on teachers and schools.

When interacting with parents and the public, teachers' words can be recorded, edited, and judged on social networks quickly and sometimes without objectivity. Just a small mistake can create a media crisis for teachers and schools. This requires teachers to have "steel spirit" and strong will to face and handle it.

“The rapid change in technology, especially artificial intelligence and the diversification of methods, is also a challenge for teachers. This requires teachers to update their knowledge of new technology and software. If they do not proactively learn to change, teachers will fall behind their friends and colleagues, thereby affecting their professional self-esteem,” said Mr. Hieu.

Coming from Minh Khai High School (Kieu Phu, Hanoi), Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hien shared her candid perspective on the changes in the position of teachers in the context of the market economy. According to her, the difference between material and spiritual values is causing the image and role of teachers to be somewhat shaken. Many teachers have to earn a living with a second job, sometimes even the second job "supports" the main job.

Students' views on the teaching profession have changed. One student once asked: "Teacher, what is the purpose of studying? My family is self-employed and still lives better than you?" However, Ms. Hien said she always maintains a strong belief: No matter what job you do, only when you find value and love in your work can you be happy. With the teaching profession, she believes that the greatest value is not income, but the joy of seeing students grow up, being loved by students and trusted by parents.

Ms. Hien shared: “I am a teacher but also a parent. When my child goes to school, I expect the same from my child’s teacher as my parent expects from their teacher. To balance that, each teacher needs to constantly learn and innovate teaching methods so that students feel that the teacher is truly a role model.

Teachers must always study and improve themselves to affirm their own capacity and position; spread positive energy, share with colleagues; actively participate in community activities, connect with parents and students, thereby building social trust in the teaching profession.

Ms. Le Thi Phuong Chau - teacher at An Cuu Primary School (An Cuu, Hue City), believes that in the digital age, teachers not only need to be good at their subject, but also need to have the courage and self-respect of their profession to maintain their values in a stressful and volatile environment. Teachers who are steadfast, responsible, and able to adapt to technology will gain prestige and be trusted by students and parents.

“From my teaching experience, I have realized that every teacher needs to constantly improve their professional capacity and digital skills, while maintaining ethics, exemplary style and sense of responsibility. I always try to update, learn and apply technology effectively in teaching; maintain a positive and standard attitude towards students, parents and colleagues; nurture love for the profession and pride in the teaching profession - considering it as a driving force to overcome all difficulties,” Ms. Phuong Chau shared.

Motivating teachers

In order for teachers to be able to devote themselves to their profession, in addition to their own efforts, they need the support, sharing and facilitation from educational management levels. Teacher Trang Minh Thien expressed his hope that the education sector would soon have practical support solutions to promote the movement of self-study and self-improvement among teachers.

Specifically, it is necessary to organize many training courses associated with teaching practices, suitable for each subject, with specific application evidence, directly supporting lectures and teaching situations according to regional characteristics; build a mechanism to encourage and recognize teachers' self-study efforts through a digital competency certification system, evaluate and recognize individual training results; develop a digital science repository and a national educational AI platform, helping teachers easily access, exploit and effectively apply it to teaching practice.

Mr. Thien also emphasized that it is necessary to reduce administrative work so that teachers have more time to focus on their expertise, develop digital skills and professional skills. In addition, organizing workshops and psychological support programs is also necessary to help teachers change their mindset, overcome their fear of innovation and become more confident in the journey of digital transformation in education.

Sharing the same view, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Huy hopes that educational management levels will continue to pay attention and create conditions for teachers to receive professional training and develop themselves more comprehensively. She believes that there should be many flexible, practical and effective forms of training, helping teachers easily access, learn and apply immediately into teaching practice.

Encouraging, recognizing and honoring teachers' spirit of learning and creativity will become a great source of motivation, helping each teacher to be more confident, enthusiastic and dedicated to the cause of educating people - especially in areas with many difficulties.

From Mr. Tran Van Hieu’s perspective, more than ever, students need guides and advisors to help them filter information, form critical thinking and learn how to learn for life. This is the core value that no AI tool or technology can replace. The value of teachers in the digital age has shifted from “the one who knows everything” to “the one who teaches how to learn” in a world where knowledge is always available.

In a digital world full of temptations and information clutter, the responsibility of teachers in educating morality, compassion and core values becomes heavier but also noble. Therefore, school administrators need to empower teachers to create a trusting and positive working environment.

The school board must become a strong support, protecting teachers from unreasonable pressure from the outside; at the same time, trust and empower teachers to be creative and proactive in their work; regularly organize training sessions to solve practical problems that teachers are facing.

Nowadays, every teacher needs to proactively acquire knowledge and master technology. Instead of being confused by each new tool, teachers should ask themselves: How does this tool help my teaching goals? Does it really improve the students' learning experience? Learn to turn technology into a powerful assistant, not a burden. - Mr. Tran Van Hieu
