The opera revolves around the story of teachers who quietly dedicate themselves to remote areas, wholeheartedly supporting poor students. Many years later, the young students grow up and return to their old school to continue to become the "boatmen of knowledge". The play is set in the 1990s, with many scenes vividly recreated, evoking memories of the school days of many audiences.

The play features the participation of artists of “Golden Bell of Traditional Opera”: Nguyen Van Khoi, Kim Luan, Hong Trang, Le Thi Kim Cuong, Diem Kieu, Ha Nhu, Phu Yen … and guests: Meritorious Artist Quynh Huong, Thanh Hong, To Thien Kieu and People's Artist Huu Quoc.
