Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh, Deputy Director of Lam Son Art Theater in a role.
Looking back on his artistic journey, Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh often repeats the saying: “I am lucky to be born into a family with an artistic tradition. My father, mother, brother and sister are all famous people in the performing arts.”
His father is Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Quang, who was a Tuong actor but was especially talented in writing scripts and directing the stage. His mother is People's Artist Mai Lan - a girl who, since she was young, "disobeyed" her parents and was determined to pursue acting - an artist who always devoted herself to art and loved Tuong art as a way of life. The two met when they were both studying at the Tuong Department at the National Theatre School (now the University of Theater and Cinema), then by chance they were able to work at the Thanh Hoa Tuong Art Troupe. In 1965, the two became husband and wife and have been attached to Thanh land ever since.
In the halo of the stage, they are famous artists. The audience who love the art of Tuong theater knows Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Quang as the author of many outstanding plays such as: "Doi dong sua me", "Quang Trung dai pha quan Thanh", "Ngai vang rung xung"... As for People's Artist Mai Lan, the audience loves her for her powerful singing voice, clear, strong voice combined with skillful, flexible acting movements. Her roles always leave a deep impression, touching the emotions of the audience.
In the context of a turbulent country, the life of an artist faces many difficulties, hardships, and sacrifices. But both he and she always encouraged each other to try, determined to pursue their passion, and live fully with their profession. During their years working at the Thanh Hoa Tuong Art Troupe, with their talent and enthusiasm, they have constantly strived to bring this art form closer to the public, contributing to building and affirming the position and appeal of Thanh Hoa's stage art. He and she, especially Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Quang, actively taught and passed on their profession to many generations of students. Many have now become artists that are "known by name and face" to the public who love stage art; some artists have been awarded the title of People's Artist or Meritorious Artist.
It was the passion and burning enthusiasm for living and dedicating to the performing arts of his grandparents that "passed the torch" and became a great motivation for the children in the family to follow in their parents' footsteps and continue their artistic journey.
Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh said: “My sister and brother were very disadvantaged because they had to live far away from their parents since childhood, but their artistic tendencies were revealed very early. Therefore, my parents also oriented them to follow the artistic path early. And now, both of them have become famous and have been awarded the title of People's Artist."
For his part, Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh frankly confided: “From the first perceptions about career orientation, my choice was not art. I used to have the thought of “breaking the rules”. When my parents and brothers and sisters all chose art as a way of life, I wanted to do something different, to find something new for my life. But in the end, every change, every turn leads to the final destination, which is art. So the profession chose me.”
Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh considers himself luckier than his brothers and sisters. Because he lived close to his parents, lived in a vibrant atmosphere, witnessed the golden age of Tuong theater art, when audiences crowded to see Tuong artists perform. He used to sleep soundly in a sling on his mother's shoulder whenever he was busy touring. He still remembers the feeling of excitement when he followed the troupe on tour and at night was "treated" to a bowl of fragrant, delicious pho. He was moved to tears every time he imagined the image of his father diligently sitting at the small table in front of his bed, writing scripts until dawn... All of these echoes echoed into him little by little, quietly but deeply and persistently.
Like his sister, Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh was fortunate to inherit his mother's natural and captivating voice and acting style; and his father's ability to write scripts and stage direction. In addition to his talent and the urge from family tradition, Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh is someone who always strives to learn, struggle with life and movements, and thereby cultivate and gain experience. He was determined to do it to the end, once he had determined a goal, he was determined to achieve it. Therefore, he soon tasted the taste of success in his career.
Now, as Deputy Director of Lam Son Art Theater, Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh is responsible for writing scripts and directing about 7 plays each year. With decades of experience in the profession, he is the author of more than 500 skits and stage plays. He no longer regularly participates in acting, but is extremely concerned and responsible for training and nurturing the next generation. Meritorious Artist Vu Trong Huynh confided: "Tradition, family background and seriousness with the profession are the driving force and mirror, urging me to do better every day."
