Cultural activities create community cohesion and preserve the cultural identity of Co Lung commune.
In Thieu Trung commune - the hometown of historian Le Van Huu after the merger, the population increased, the political and social organization system had many changes, but the movement to build a cultural life was still maintained and expanded. The commune currently has 34 villages, most of which have been recognized as cultural residential areas, with the rate of cultural families reaching 87%. Along with upgrading and renovating cultural institutions, the commune especially focuses on organizing cultural - artistic (VHVN) and physical education - sports (TDTT) activities to become a bridge connecting people. Up to now, each residential area has maintained the effective operation of at least 1 VHVN club (CLB) and 1 TDTT club. Club meetings for the elderly, women, youth... have become regular activities, helping people become closer, more united, and unanimous in implementing the new lifestyle.
Head of Village 5 Pham Dinh Ngoc shared: “After the merger, at first, people in the villages were not really familiar with the common lifestyle, but when they joined the movement to build a cultural life, everyone became closer together. From specific tasks such as cleaning, planting flowers on both sides of the road, organizing cultural and sports activities, to joining hands to help poor households repair their houses, supporting flood victims, supporting the Cuban people... all demonstrate the spirit of solidarity that the movement brings.”
It is that consensus that has helped residential areas in Thieu Trung commune become increasingly united, becoming a bright spot in promoting traditional values associated with building modern life.
In Co Lung commune - a locality established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of Co Lung and Lung Cao communes, with 2,281 households and 9,538 people. The commune currently has 22 villages, with 97% of the population being Thai people. The movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" is currently being implemented in the direction of promoting traditional cultural identity associated with building a civilized lifestyle. After the merger, the commune continues to invest in and renovate cultural institutions, many village cultural houses are renovated and sound and lighting systems are installed to serve community activities. In particular, the art troupes of Am Hieu and Cao villages... regularly organize art performances, folk dances, and volleyball exchanges, attracting a large number of people to participate.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Co Lung Commune, Ha Khac Diep, said: "After the merger, we identified the construction of a new cultural life as a key task to unite the community and create a foundation for socio-economic development. The commune has launched a movement to build cultural residential areas and cultural families, while linking cultural criteria with the criteria for building new rural areas as one of the important contents in the action program to implement the Resolution of the 1st Congress of the Party Committee of Co Lung Commune, term 2025-2030. The commune will also continue to research, collect and restore a number of folk festivals, thereby enriching the cultural and spiritual life of the people, contributing to sustainable tourism development."
Notably, Co Lung is also one of the mountainous communes aiming to become a bright spot in tourism development. Some roads are equipped with lighting, and flowers are planted on both sides to create a new look for the countryside. Self-management movements on security and order, environmental sanitation, education promotion - talent promotion... are unanimously implemented by the community.
These are two of the typical communes and wards in the province that are making efforts to build a new cultural life after the merger. Here, it is not only about preserving traditions but also about new ways to adapt to changes in organization and society. When villages, hamlets and residential areas are rearranged, using culture as the "glue" to connect people and create consensus is the right direction. It is also a clear demonstration of the policy of the Party, the State and the province in attaching importance to cultural development in parallel with socio-economic development, especially in rural and mountainous areas, where community life is closely linked to traditional cultural space.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, many localities after the merger have quickly stabilized their organizations, promoted the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life", and made cultural, sports and community activities become regular and routine. In addition, the awarding of the titles "Cultural Family" and "Cultural Residential Area" will continue to be carried out publicly and transparently, creating motivation for people to actively participate in building a new cultural life.
