Honoring heritage with practical action

VHO - The leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang said that in the system of items to stimulate local tourism from the fall of 2025, Heritage Passport will appear, a form that not only brings opportunities to experience cultural tourism values and services for tourists, but also directly contributes to honoring and affirming the values of local cultural heritage.

This choice of Da Nang tourism comes from a question raised by many tourists: How can they better access the cultural and historical values in the Central region, a land always associated with stories of land reclamation and heritage stories?

Putting heritage into practice

Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang shared that from the winter of 2024, when the Culinary Passport program was effectively implemented by Da Nang, a number of tourists and consultants expressed their views on expanding useful activities for this cultural tourism environment with additional methods. In particular, the story of cultural heritage and national treasures was mentioned.

Da Nang organizes museum and archaeological activities associated with spreading cultural values from tourists

The leaders of the Da Nang Museum once expressed their thoughts on bringing the public closer to museum activities and learning about local treasures. “Is it true that every year, the archaeology and history sectors and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism come up with new lists of treasures, recognizing more historical and social values, while those valuable relics and artifacts remain in warehouses and display cabinets?”

From this perspective, the Da Nang tourism and culture sector proposes the implementation of Heritage Passports for tourists and residents who want to learn more about social knowledge through each trip.

Based on the experience of successfully organizing the Culinary Passport model, Da Nang plans to award Heritage Passports to all tourists in need, when coming to the locality, so that they can freely explore and access tourist attractions and museums.

“The treasures and cultural heritages will therefore be directly present in the itinerary of tourists exploring the land and people. They will stay longer, understand more deeply and truly feel the emotions of each trip. The work of promoting and honoring our cultural heritages and national treasures will also achieve more positive results,” Mr. Tan Van Vuong acknowledged.

This idea from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang immediately received supportive and welcoming responses from the museum and tourism sectors of Hue, Dak Lak, Ho Chi Minh City... Particularly in Hue, local tourism leaders have planned to strongly implement a tourism model associated with cultural heritage experiences.

Hue treasures and antiques are one of the rare sources of documents that need practical promotion.

Hue possesses many national treasures and unique cultural heritages, so visitors cannot miss the opportunity to learn, approach and understand more.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang, winter 2025 will be the right time for tourism in this city to receive a new idea of exploiting cultural tourism, with the Heritage Passport being introduced, so that the community and tourists can experience different spiritual and emotional values, listen, understand and know about heritage culture, about hundred-year-old stories that are only in books...

Many challenges

According to Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of Da Nang Museum, after the administrative merger, the city's museum and antiquities space has expanded, which also means the responsibility to promote and introduce cultural and historical values through museums must be raised. The idea of building a Heritage Passport is therefore very useful and valuable.

Even with the perspective of sustainable cooperation, between localities and especially the Department of Cultural Heritage, there should be an immediate plan to replicate and spread this model.

Da Nang promotes tourism activities associated with new experiential models, including Heritage Passport.

How to have a common connection program for tourists, especially international tourists, when coming to Vietnam, to use Heritage Passports to visit and experience places, receive gifts, receive certificates of having learned and known about Vietnamese cultural heritage and national treasures.

Mr. Tan Van Vuong acknowledged that anyone planning to visit a new land would want to learn and know new and interesting things. Treasures and cultural heritages would therefore be an important link to attract visitors and tourists.

The important point is what solutions localities and the cultural tourism industry have to exploit in the right direction and reasonably, helping to enhance the values of cultural heritage.

Specifically, instead of museums and research institutes only preserving treasures and antiquities in a closed manner, in the near future there will need to be tourism cooperation methods to introduce and promote the values obtained. It is necessary to classify treasures and heritages so that the management sector can have appropriate methods of protection and honor.

Not everyone can access treasures, especially valuable treasures, so how should we build and create exhibition versions, souvenirs, etc., to help people clearly recognize and know the treasures in a real way. Only those who are qualified, the museum and cultural sector can help them directly access the treasures, and those are also very special tours.

Exploiting cultural heritage in this way will help increase the value of tourism activities, and the results obtained from tourist satisfaction will be truly enormous.

At the same time, through promotional models such as Heritage Passport, stories about regional cultural treasures and heritages will also be expanded. Localities can thereby publish publications and items related to heritage and treasures, increasing communication value and sales for the cultural tourism industry itself.

Combining these information systems, the cultural heritage sector will have more conditions to organize community activities, specialized research, scientific seminars, etc. to learn more deeply about cultural values. All will create an attractive environment for exploring national cultural heritage, honoring heritage through practical actions.
