General Secretary To Lam warmly welcomed the Sultan of Brunei to visit Vietnam for the seventh time, believing that this visit will promote the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership to develop more practically and effectively.
The General Secretary highly appreciated the great achievements that Brunei has made in building and developing the country, especially good economic growth, guaranteed social security with the human development index ranked in the "very high" group in the world; wished Brunei will successfully implement the "National Development Vision to 2035".

Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah was pleased to return to Vietnam for the first time in 2019 and looked forward to further promoting the Comprehensive Partnership between Brunei and Vietnam. The Sultan also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and sent his regards to the people in the areas affected by floods and landslides.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive development of the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership in recent times: High-level and all-level contacts have been maintained regularly; bilateral trade turnover in 2024 increased by 165% compared to 2023, completing the target of 500 million USD in 2025 ahead of schedule; cooperation in the fields of defense-security, fisheries, oil and gas, education... has many positive results.
Discussing the future cooperation orientation, the two leaders agreed to enhance political trust; promote and facilitate trade and investment activities, enhance connectivity, support businesses in exchanging information and finding partners; effectively exploit the cooperation potential between the two countries in other fields such as agriculture, fisheries, Halal, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange...

The General Secretary suggested promoting maritime cooperation, including preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and responding to climate change. The King stressed that Vietnam is an important trade partner and wishes to promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture, food and Halal, encourage Vietnamese enterprises to expand cooperation in the oil and gas industry, and enhance people-to-people exchanges through scholarship and training programs.
At the same time, the two sides pledged to continue coordinating and supporting each other at multilateral forums, especially ASEAN and the United Nations; strengthening solidarity, unity and maintaining ASEAN's central role in the region; and promoting cooperation on regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue.
