On the occasion of Mr. Vladimir Putin's re-election as President of the Russian Federation, on behalf of the Party and State of Vietnam, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent a letter of congratulations to President Vladimir Putin.

According to the results from the Russian Central Election Commission, after counting 82.76% of the votes, independent candidate Vladimir Putin won 87.18% of the votes.

Mr. Putin (71 years old) was President of Russia from 2000 to 2008 and from 2012 to present. He held the position of Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012.

On March 17, Russian voters in Vietnam voted for the Russian President at four polling stations: the Russian Embassy ( Hanoi ), the Russian Consulate General in Da Nang, the Russian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and the "Russian Village" Vietsovpetro (Vung Tau). Previously, on March 6, some Russian voters voted ahead of schedule in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa).

Five polling stations in Vietnam are among 281 polling stations outside Russia in 144 countries. At two polling stations in Da Nang and Hanoi, registered international observers are operating.

Russia's Central Election Commission (CEC) said voter turnout in this year's election was at a record high and incumbent President Vladimir Putin is expected to win a landslide victory with nearly 90% of the vote.
