According to Bloomberg, President Vladimir Putin is confident that Russian gas supplies to Europe can increase again if an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine is signed.

The reason for the Russian leader's confidence is that relations between this country and the US may be "warming up".

Washington is reportedly looking to partner with Gazprom - Russia's state gas company - to revive the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

US investor Stephen Lynch could buy the company operating Nord Stream 2 if it goes bankrupt, giving the world's largest economy a stake in the project.

Bloomberg commented that the most important factor for Russian gas to return to Europe is cheap price.

Although the European Union (EU) has significantly reduced its dependence on Russian gas, energy price pressures are still weighing on the region.

After the biggest energy crisis in decades, gas prices in the old continent have not yet fully returned to previous levels.

Many industries in Germany are looking forward to the opportunity to get gas back from Russia because high energy prices are affecting their ability to compete with foreign producers.

However, there are also barriers that make it difficult for Moscow’s gas to return to Europe. Specifically: The 27-member bloc is implementing a plan to completely eliminate Russian energy by 2027; and many of Gazprom’s major customers, including Uniper (Germany) and OMV (Austria), have canceled long-term contracts after arbitration decisions.
