New Toyota Fortuner revealed - is this design enough to "boost" sales?
A rendering has sketched out the appearance of the 2027 Fortuner based on the latest design of the Hilux, opening up a look at the development direction of the Japanese automaker's 7-seat SUV.

The rendering shows that the new Fortuner may have a “Cyber Sumo” style front end – the new design language of the Hilux – with LED daytime running lights extending down to the fake air vents and neatly integrated fog lights. The grille retains the classic style with the prominent Toyota lettering, but is made three-dimensional. The front bumper is redesigned to be square, creating a more solid feel. The body uses square, more muscular wheel arches with clearly visible plastic cladding.
The rear sculpting and tail section are tweaked to evoke the Land Cruiser Prado. The rear has a simple yet powerful style with slim, sharp taillights, connected by a central black strip with the name “Fortuner”. Although there is no official information yet, the new Fortuner is likely to still use the current IMV chassis platform, similar to the Hilux. That means the wheelbase will not change much, helping to maintain familiar performance and large ground clearance.
The version in the rendering is envisioned with 18-inch alloy wheels, tires size 265/60 R18. In terms of engine, Toyota can continue to use the 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine (1GD-FTV) with a capacity of 201 horsepower - the type that has been improved on the new generation Hilux. The 2.4L engine may be dropped to simplify the product portfolio. However, the possibility of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or pure electric (BEV) version is still open, due to the limited space under the floor of the Fortuner compared to the Hilux. Toyota has not yet confirmed the official launch date of the new generation Fortuner, but with the 2025 Hilux having been introduced, it is likely that Fortuner will follow suit in the near future.
If the new Fortuner has a similar design to this rendering, this could be an important step in refreshing the image of the popular SUV in many Asian markets, including Vietnam. Video : Revealing the new generation Toyota Fortuner SUV model.
