Buon Ma Thuot City: Ensuring universal education in the 2025 - 2026 school year

These days, the education sector of Buon Ma Thuot City is coordinating with units and localities to focus on primary school enrollment to speed up progress while still ensuring universal education according to regulations.

According to the plan issued at the end of March 2025, the Departmentof Education and Training will approve the enrollment results of public preschools on June 23, 2025; approve the enrollment results of grades 1 and 6 on June 16, 2025.

However, in order to effectively implement the enrollment work at the primary level in the context of building a two-level government (provincial and communal levels), on June 3, the Department of Education and Training of Buon Ma Thuot City issued a document adjusting the time to approve the enrollment results of the primary classes to June 10, 2025, earlier than planned.

To ensure overall progress, educational institutions also adjusted enrollment plans, promoted information work and supported people with related procedures.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Hung Vuong Secondary School (Tu An Ward) was assigned by the city 270 enrollment targets for grade 6. According to the original plan, enrollment at the school would be completed on June 15, but the enrollment plan changed so the school is expected to complete this work on June 8, 2025. As of the afternoon of June 4, the school had received about 200 applications for grade 6 enrollment, reaching 75% of the assigned target.

At To Hieu Primary School (Ea Tam Ward), enrollment work is also being accelerated. Ms. Doan Thi Tuyet Yen, Principal of To Hieu Primary School, shared that upon receiving the document on the change in enrollment plan, the school coordinated with preschools in the area, the self-management boards of villages, hamlets, and residential groups to review the list of 6-year-old students entering grade 1 to mobilize parents to come to school to submit their applications according to the plan. Up to now, the school has enrolled 80% of the planned quota (the school was assigned 175 quotas).

Phan Chu Trinh Secondary School is the only public secondary school in Buon Ma Thuot City that enrolls students according to its own program, including 270 quotas for grade 6 under the English program. On the morning of June 5, the school posted a list of students with accompanying information for parents to check such as: admission scores, scores of additional criteria, etc.

According to Mr. Vo Ngoc Nam, Principal of Phan Chu Trinh Secondary School, the school received nearly 1,000 application files (photocopies) from students across the city. Based on the list posted at the school with accompanying information, parents can estimate their children's admission results to implement the second option of submitting applications to secondary schools according to the admission zoning. Cases with changes compared to the forecast will be supported by the school to the maximum to ensure the rights of students.

Private educational institutions are also speeding up the enrollment process so that parents have more time to choose schools and classes for their children. At Dong Du Secondary and High School, the school's 6th grade entrance exam and assessment for the 2025-2026 school year had more than 1,300 candidates taking the exam. On the evening of June 4, the school announced the list of successful candidates (420 targets), and on June 5, the school began accepting applications for successful students. Regarding the 10th grade high school enrollment, nearly 700 candidates took the exam and the school announced the exam results; the list of successful candidates for grade 10 will be announced according to the plan of the Department of Education and Training.

In reality, the change in enrollment time has caused parents and students to worry because it shortens the time to choose a school. Meanwhile, schools that enroll students by route will collect students' original records for comparison and approval according to regulations. Therefore, many parents worry that it will be "difficult" to recruit additional students or withdraw original records when they are admitted to private schools or key schools.

Mr. Pham Van Uy, Principal of Hung Vuong Secondary School (Tu An Ward) said that the school will collect the original documents of students to compare and approve the documents according to the admission regulations. In case the candidates are admitted to educational institutions with separate admission programs (private schools, Phan Chu Trinh Secondary School), they will be supported to withdraw the original documents according to their wishes. In case the students submit their applications late for various reasons, when they return to school, if the students are in the right admission area, the school will make a list and propose to the competent authority to approve the addition to ensure universal secondary education according to regulations.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Luat, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Buon Ma Thuot City, said that the enrollment time was adjusted earlier than planned to ensure that the sector completes its enrollment tasks and other educational plans for the 2025-2026 school year, especially in the context that the locality is restructuring its administrative units (completing enrollment records to hand over to schools and new commune-level localities).

When the enrollment work is completed, the city will ensure the mobilization of children to go to school and the universal education plan for preschool, primary and secondary schools. During the implementation of the enrollment plan, the Department also requires educational institutions to actively support parents, create conditions for parents to withdraw original documents, submit additional enrollment documents... to ensure students' right to study.
