Ho Chi Minh City: Speeding up the renovation of Tham Luong - Ben Cat canal

On the afternoon of May 31, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (Urban Project Management Board) announced that the overall progress of the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal infrastructure construction and environmental improvement project has reached 37%.

This project connects Long An province via Cho Dem river and Binh Duong province, Dong Nai province via Saigon river.

The project includes 10 construction packages (from XL-01 to XL-10) that have all been signed contracts and the contractor is focusing all resources to speed up construction progress.

The Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project is being accelerated to finish on April 30, 2025.

In particular, some main items have good progress such as construction of canal embankments reaching nearly 62%; treatment of weak ground with soil cement piles (CDM) reaching over 50%; construction of level 2 culverts has been carried out simultaneously (22/22 culverts).

Other items are being implemented synchronously by the contractor with many parallel construction teams across the entire project scope.

Regarding compensation and site clearance, in Go Vap district, 43/46 sites have been handed over to investors. The remaining sites are being contacted for dialogue, document comparison, and site handover.

In District 12, 82/182 households have been handed over land, and are continuing to carry out compensation and land recovery procedures for the remaining 100 households.

Regarding the handling of re-encroachment and boundary overlap, the entire project has 321 cases of land issues related to re-encroachment or intersections and boundary overlaps with other projects.

Of which, Binh Chanh district has 2 cases, Binh Tan has 224 cases, Tan Binh has 3 cases, Go Vap has 21 cases; Binh Thanh has 2 cases and District 12 has 36 cases.

According to the Infrastructure Project Management Board, relevant districts are actively reviewing, inspecting, dialogue, and mobilizing people to hand over land for the project.

To date, 273/321 cases have been resolved. The remaining problems are being actively handled by the People's Committees of districts and towns to hand over the project site according to the set schedule.

The project of Infrastructure Construction and Environmental Improvement of Tham Luong - Ben Cat Canal - Nuoc Len Rach is implemented in District 12, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Binh Tan, Tan Binh, Tan Phu and Binh Chanh District.

The main scale of the project is to build a canal embankment with a total length of 63.11km; dredge the canal with a length of 31.46km; build roads on both sides of the canal with a total length of 63.41km and construct works such as drainage culverts, marinas, traffic bridges, traffic intersections, technical trenches, rainwater drainage systems, lighting systems, and landscape renovation along the route.

The project has a total investment of 8,200 billion VND, implementation period from 2021 to 2025.
