The first 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City was organized by the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City National University on May 25 and 26, 2024.
The total number of candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam this year is 3,853, including 9th graders in Ho Chi Minh City and 9th graders from other provinces and cities.
According to Mr. Tran Vu - Vice Principal of Gifted High School, the number of candidates this year increased by about 24% compared to last year (in 2023, 3,092 candidates registered for the 10th grade entrance exam to this school).
Of which, the number of candidates registering for grade 10 English major is the highest: 1,330 students. Next is math major: 1,132 students, literature major: 672, chemistry major: 518, physics major: 385, information technology major: 252, biology major: 227 students.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the total enrollment target of the Gifted High School is 595 students. Of which, at the District 5 campus, the school enrolls 245 students for 7 specialized 10th grade classes: Math, IT, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, and English.

The output standards of specialized classes in District 5 emphasize the development of academic capacity, early access to specialized knowledge at high school and university levels, and orientation to develop talents in key scientific fields at higher levels of education.
Thu Duc campus (in the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University) recruits 350 students into 10 specialized classes oriented towards interdisciplinary fields: Mathematics-interdisciplinary, Information Technology-interdisciplinary, Physics-interdisciplinary, Chemistry-interdisciplinary, Biology-interdisciplinary, English-interdisciplinary and Literature-interdisciplinary.
These specialized classes focus on developing interdisciplinary thinking skills through diverse career experience opportunities, talent development orientation, etc.

"The total enrollment target for grade 10 this year remains unchanged compared to last year. Therefore, candidates this year will be more competitive than last year.
The registration of wishes for 17 specialized 10th grade classes is quite high, with the majority of candidates choosing priority wishes for specialized English, math, chemistry, literature, and IT classes at both campuses. However, almost all candidates register for 2 or more wishes to increase their chances of being admitted to the school," said Mr. Vu.

In addition to the 10th grade entrance exam of the Gifted High School, Ho Chi Minh City also has a 10th grade entrance exam taking place on June 6 and 7, 2024, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training.
The total enrollment target for public grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City is 77,355 students (the initial target was 71,820 students).
This year, Ho Chi Minh City has 98,681 grade 9 students registered for the grade 10 exam. It is calculated that the grade 10 entrance exam organized by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City this year will have 78.3% of students passing the grade 10 public exam.
