Ho Chi Minh City: Survey of English proficiency of nearly 200,000 9th and 11th grade students

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just planned to survey the English proficiency of 9th and 11th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year.

Accordingly, 100% of 9th and 11th graders in and out of public schools in Ho Chi Minh City will participate in the English proficiency test, starting from May 6, 2025.

Students will take an online, objective multiple-choice test that covers listening, reading and writing skills and will take 60 minutes.

The survey will be drafted by the GeneralEducation Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training according to the standard format of LanguageCert, PeopleCert Qualifications, UK.

Students will log in on a computer or laptop with an Internet connection at: http://khaosatngoaingu.hcm.edu.vn to take the survey.

For grade 9, the English proficiency test will take place from May 6 to 14. For grade 11, the test will take place from May 15 to 22, 2025.

It is known that this is the 6th year that Ho Chi Minh City has organized an online survey of English proficiency according to international standards for students in grades 9 and 11 across the city, starting from 2020.

Currently, the number of 9th and 11th graders in Ho Chi Minh City is nearly 200,000 students.

Objectives of English proficiency survey for students

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said:

"The organization of this survey aims to assess students' English proficiency according to the output standards of the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework; Evaluate foreign language teaching in high schools; Prepare for the effective implementation of the task of "Promoting international integration in education and training, meeting the requirements of improving the quality of human resources to serve the country's development in the new period.

Focus on improving students' foreign language skills, gradually making English the second language in schools...".

The survey results are only used for analysis and research purposes, not for comparison, classification, or evaluation of students, teachers, or schools.
