Ho Chi Minh City starts construction of Xuyen Tam canal project with total investment of 17,229 billion VND

The Xuyen Tam canal project connects from Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal to Vam Thuat river with a total length of 8,865 m.

Of which, the main canal is 6,628 m long and the 3 branches Cau Son, Binh Loi and Binh Trieu have a total length of 2,237 m passing through Go Vap and Binh Thanh districts.

Over the years, this canal has seriously degraded due to garbage, stagnant water, causing flooding and serious environmental pollution, greatly affecting the lives of people on both banks.

The Xuyen Tam canal environmental improvement project includes investment items such as: dredging and cleaning the canal; construction of drainage systems, roads, sidewalks, trees and other auxiliary works.

The project has a total investment of 17,229 billion VND from the City's budget.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (Infrastructure Project Management Board) was assigned by the City People's Committee to be the investor to implement the Project from 2023-2028.

Regarding site clearance, the total number of cases affected by the project is 2,215, of which 138 cases are in Go Vap district and 2,077 cases are in Binh Thanh district.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Dau An Phuc, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Infrastructure Department, said that this project is not only an infrastructure project, but also a project of the people's hearts, a determination of the City government in improving the living environment, enhancing the quality of life for the people, creating a new look for the central urban area.

“As the project investor, we are committed to focusing all resources to complete the project according to the set goals and schedule. At the same time, we will coordinate well with relevant departments and local authorities to soon complete the compensation and site clearance work of the entire project to deploy the construction to complete it synchronously according to the goals and schedule,” Mr. Phuc affirmed.

After the project is completed, the Xuyen Tam Canal Project will solve environmental pollution and prevent flooding in Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts.

At the same time, collecting wastewater to the city's centralized wastewater treatment plant, and connecting traffic along the route helps to improve the urban area along Xuyen Tam canal. Therefore, the groundbreaking of this project has been awaited by residents of Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts for many years.
