According to the report at the Conference, after merging and expanding development space, the traffic infrastructure network connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai needs huge investment.

Currently, the two localities have 45 connecting roads, including 14 existing routes, 13 routes under investment and 18 routes under research.

Regarding railways, there are 5 important routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai including: Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line extending to Dong Nai; Ba Ria - Vung Tau urban railway line No. 3; Bien Hoa - Vung Tau national railway; Bau Bang - Cai Mep; and Thu Thiem - Long Thanh.

For waterways, there are 12 passenger wharves across the river, mainly across the Dong Nai River.

At the meeting, a representative of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee stated the current situation, the infrastructure connecting the two localities is mainly by road, rail and waterway.

Road transport is the main mode, but due to the high density of vehicles, existing roads have been overloaded, causing constant congestion such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51...

Although some beltways and expressways have been put into operation, they still cannot meet demand, especially when Long Thanh Airport is officially put into operation in 2026.

Therefore, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province believes that it is necessary to soon invest in projects, highways, and railways connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai to reduce travel time.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee Vu Hong Van said that after the first Provincial Party Congress, Dong Nai has identified key tasks, including connecting synchronous traffic infrastructure with the "super" urban area of Ho Chi Minh City.

He emphasized that the two key contents that need to be discussed are the unification of the tasks of each locality in implementing each project and the unification of investment policies to ensure the timely completion of infrastructure projects connecting to Long Thanh Airport.

“Dong Nai with Long Thanh Airport will be a new growth pole in the South. The development in the Long Thanh Airport area and the transportation system associated with the seaport, services, etc. will create international-scale development. If we do not take advantage of the opportunity, we will lose it, so the province wants to discuss with the two localities to have a clear roadmap to synchronize the transportation infrastructure,” said the Secretary of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee, and at the same time suggested that the two localities build a specific investment roadmap.

Regarding Ho Chi Minh City, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tran Luu Quang said that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province both have larger scale, greater potential and advantages, but also heavier responsibilities. According to him, cooperation in infrastructure investment between the two localities is very necessary to connect development spaces.

The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee requested the two localities to clearly identify priority tasks that need to be implemented in the coming time, especially removing major obstacles in traffic projects.

In particular, special attention should be paid to site clearance work, because the difference in compensation prices between the two localities is affecting the implementation progress.

Previously, leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and Dong Nai Province People's Committee had many working sessions to agree on investment plans for key projects such as Cat Lai Bridge, Phu My 2 Bridge, Dong Nai 2 Bridge, and the railway connecting Tan Son Nhat Airport - Long Thanh.
