Ho Chi Minh City approves new names of 102 commune and ward level units

On April 18, the 10th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council (HĐND) for the 2021-2026 term opened its 22nd session. At the session, a Resolution was passed to unify the plan to arrange 273 wards, communes, and towns into 102 wards and communes.

Standing Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Ngoc Hai, on behalf of the City People's Committee, presented the contents to the meeting, including the arrangement of administrative units and the construction of a 2-level local government organization model.

One of the main contents of the meeting is to review the plan to arrange administrative units at all levels, build a model of organizing a 2-level local government; and organize the apparatus of specialized agencies under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

At the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Ngoc Hai presented a report on the development of a Resolution of the City People's Council approving the policy of arranging administrative units and building a 2-level local government organization model.

Regarding provincial administrative units, Ho Chi Minh City is a centrally-governed city, established on the basis of merging Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong Province and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province. The new administrative unit is formed on the basis of performing the parallel tasks of arranging provincial-level administrative units and grassroots-level administrative units.

After the reorganization, Ho Chi Minh City will effectively implement the 2-level local government model, promote the potential and advantages of the 3 provinces and cities in terms of land area, population size, economic growth results, and strive to be the new growth pole of the country and the Southeast region.

Regarding the construction of a two-level local government organization model, according to the proposal of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the city's 273 existing wards, communes and towns will be arranged into 102 units.

At the meeting, delegates of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council voted to pass a resolution on the arrangement of wards and communes.

In which, District 1 currently has 4 wards from 10 wards with the following names: Tan Dinh, Saigon, Ben Thanh, Ong Lanh Bridge.

District 3: from 10 wards to 3 wards: Xuan Hoa, Nhieu Loc, Ban Co.

District 4: from 10 wards to 3 wards: Vinh Hoi, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu.

District 5: from 10 wards to 3 wards: Cho Quan, An Dong, Cho Lon

District 6: reduced from 10 wards to 4 wards: Binh Tien, Binh Tay, Binh Phu and Phu Lam.

District 7: reduced from 10 wards to 4 wards: Tan My, Tan Hung, Tan Thuan and Phu Thuan.

District 8: reduced from 10 wards to 3 wards: Chanh Hung, Binh Dong, Phu Dinh

District 10: from 11 wards to 3 wards: Hoa Hung, Vuon Lai and Dien Hong.

District 11: from 10 wards to 4 wards: Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Binh Thoi, Minh Phung.

District 12 : reduced from 11 wards to 5 wards : Dong Hung Thuan, Trung My Tay, Tan Thoi Hiep, Thoi An and An Phu Dong.

Binh Thanh District: reduced from 15 wards to 5 wards: Gia Dinh, Binh Thanh, Binh Loi Trung, Thanh My Tay, Binh Quoi.

Go Vap District: reduced from 12 wards to 6 wards: Hanh Thong, An Nhon, Go Vap, Thong Tay Hoi, An Hoi Tay, An Hoi Dong.

Tan Binh District: reduced from 15 wards to 6 wards: Tan Son Hoa, Tan Son Nhat, Tan Hoa, Bay Hien, Tan Binh, Tan Son.

Tan Phu District: reduced from 11 wards to 5 wards: Tay Thanh, Tan Son Nhi, Phu Tho Hoa, Phu Thanh, Tan Phu.

Binh Tan District: reduced from 10 wards to 5 wards: Binh Tan, Binh Hung Hoa, Binh Tri Dong, An Lac, Tan Tao

Phu Nhuan District: reduced from 11 wards to 3 wards: Duc Nhuan, Cau Kieu, Phu Nhuan.

Thu Duc City: reduced from 34 wards to 12 wards: Hiep Binh, Tam Binh, Thu Duc, Linh Xuan, Long Binh, Tang Nhon Phu, Phuoc Long, Long Phuoc, Long Truong, An Khanh, Binh Trung, Cat Lai.

Hoc Mon District: reduced from 11 communes and towns to 4 communes: Hoc Mon, Ba Diem, Xuan Thoi Son, Dong Thanh

Cu Chi District: reduced from 21 communes and towns to 7 communes: An Nhon Tay, Thai My, Nhuan Duc, Tan An Hoi, Cu Chi, Phu Hoa Dong, Binh My.

Binh Chanh District: reduced from 16 communes and towns to 7 new communes: Vinh Loc, Tan Vinh Loc, Binh Loi, Tan Nhut, Binh Chanh, Hung Long, Binh Hung.

Can Gio District: reduced from 7 communes and towns to 4 communes: Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, Can Gio, Thanh An (still maintaining the status quo of the old island commune).

Nha Be District: reduced from 7 communes and towns to 2 communes: Nha Be and Hiep Phuoc.
