The Market Management Department of Ho Chi Minh City recently announced that after nearly a month of market inspections at the end of the year, the authorities discovered 348 violations and temporarily seized 529,694 products with a total estimated value of more than 11 billion VND.

This period is the peak time for inspection and handling of smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement before, during and after the 2026 Lunar New Year. Records show that many violations are large-scale, spanning many product groups.

Of these, 32 smuggling cases were detected with more than 31,000 products; 181 cases of goods of unknown origin with more than 341,000 units of goods; 109 cases of counterfeit goods with more than 12,600 products.

In the e-commerce sector alone, there were 90 violations, with more than 138,726 products of counterfeit trademarks, smuggled goods, or products of unknown origin being detained.

The food sector is also worrying with 57 cases, temporarily seizing 3.1 tons and more than 200,000 food products of uncertain origin. In addition, the authorities discovered 2 cases of smuggled functional foods (18,119 boxes) and 50 cases of cosmetics violations with more than 14,000 products.

Notable violations

On November 9-10, Market Management Team No. 22 and 23 coordinated with the Economic Police Department (Ho Chi Minh City Police) to inspect 4 means of transport in the Long Hai area (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau ), discovering 73,393 liters of diesel without invoices or documents.

On November 12, Market Management Team No. 1 inspected two warehouses in Hoa Loi and Lai Thieu wards (old Binh Duong area), discovering 25,459 electrical appliances, household goods, stationery and food of unknown origin. All of these goods were declared to be for business on e-commerce platforms.

During November 10-13, Market Management Team No. 3 inspected a company in Phu Dinh ward and a business establishment in An Lac ward, discovering 18,119 boxes of smuggled functional foods and 300 expired cosmetic products.

The HCM City Market Management Department said that during the peak season at the end of the year, this unit will focus heavily on checking goods traded online - where the situation of counterfeit goods, fake goods, and goods of unknown origin is most complicated. Key topics such as checking milk and bird's nest in 2025 for business registration, price listing, food safety certificates, and origin will also be carried out.

The department will also conduct inspections of gold trading at 180 locations in the city, focusing on business conditions, product labels, industrial property and price listing.
