In recent years, trekking has become a trend in Vietnam, especially in Vinh Phuc province, attracting many young people and those who love experiential travel. Recently, a trekking competition organized by Tsubame Tourism and Trade Joint Stock Company in Vinh Yen city took place in Tay Thien, combined with a short tour, attracting athletes and tourists to participate.

According to Bui Hong Do, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism: “The Tay Thien scenic area and Tam Dao tourist area have steep terrain and scenic viewpoints with waterfalls, clear streams, and vast, majestic mountains, making them ideal destinations for tourists to combine trekking and sightseeing – a form of tourism that combines experience with running. Trekking competitions organized here are quite suitable and attract tourists.”
At Tay Thien, the Upper Temple area and Thach Ban Mountain are the final destinations for runners and tourists who start from the Thong Temple area. Climbing to an altitude of 530 meters takes over an hour; the scenery along the way to conquer Thach Ban peak is beautiful, with diverse vegetation, exotic flowers, cascading waterfalls, and historical sites such as the Co Temple and Cau Temple, all contributing to a sense of peace and relieving fatigue.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tinh (44 years old) from Me Tri Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi shared: “This is my first time participating in a trekking race at Tay Thien. I was able to admire the dreamy scenery along the way; it's like a unique paradise. Visiting the tourist spots in a short day tour and being named among the fastest finishers was very exciting. Especially, this is the beginning of the next leg of my journey to trek to other tourist destinations in Vinh Phuc.”

During a short trip up Thach Ban mountain, athletes and tourists alike can experience local forest delicacies such as giang leaves, sticky rice, bamboo-cooked rice, and stream fish. After the journey, they can enjoy the panoramic views of the entire Tay Thien scenic area, including the Upper Temple, Co Chin Temple, Mau Dia Temple, Tam Toa Thanh Mau Temple, Tay Thien Pagoda, and even the forest with the Quan Am Buddha Cave.
The majestic mountain scenery interspersed with architectural highlights of temples and pagodas is a highlight that any visitor would want to explore. Deep within the forest lies the Phù Nghì hermitage and temple, meticulously constructed over many years, attracting tourists with its spiritual world and a sense of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of life.
Ms. Bui Thi Hai from Tich Son ward, Vinh Yen city, shared: “As someone who loves trekking, my friends and I had a very interesting journey through colorful forests filled with flowers, leaves, and plants. This is the most attractive tourist route I have ever known. Combining jogging to improve health with experiencing eco-tourism and spirituality is the best combination. Through this, I also had the opportunity to interact, connect, and promote the beauty of my hometown to friends everywhere.”
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh, Director of Tsubme Tourism and Trade Joint Stock Company, said: “In order to restore the walking route in the Tay Thien - Tam Dao scenic area and promote tourist destinations in Vinh Phuc, the company has organized the Tay Thien Trekking competition, and will soon hold the competition in the Tam Dao tourist area. This will attract a large number of tourists to Vinh Phuc, promote the image and attractive destinations, and create tours combining eco-tourism, relaxation, and adventure.”

The Tay Thien scenic area and the Tam Dao tourist area offer stunning trekking routes, making them popular choices for tourists to enjoy the scenic mountain and forest views. Many visitors from provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, and Tuyen Quang have opted for these locations for one-day trekking trips.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also identified trekking as one of the rapidly developing tourism types in Vinh Phuc. With its strengths in landscapes and routes interspersed with mountains and forests for exploration, Vinh Phuc can create many attractive trekking tours.
Recently, Tam Dao district also launched a new forest walking trail (formerly the "Green Tuya" trail) to create a new trekking space for tourists. The trail was opened by the French in the early 20th century to allow visitors to observe the panoramic view of the town center below while enjoying the forest scenery. When the trail is restored, it will unlock the potential to attract tourists to the famous scenic spots in the area.
Trekking is a popular travel trend among young people, especially in scenic spots with fresh, cool air and mountains. Many short-day mountain climbing and trekking tours in Tay Thien and Tam Dao have been shared by young people on social media, spreading and creating a strong effect that has led to an increasing number of tourists visiting Vinh Phuc.
