Film director Quoc Cong said that the novel on which the film is based is a haunting story about love. Although written in the 80s, the novel's declarations and thoughts about love still have very contemporary meanings.
Director Quoc Cong shared that, while adapting, he quickly realized that with the story he wanted to tell, he needed to bring the audience into the world of the film, away from the familiarity they often saw on screen. From there, he intended to build the film in the 90s and made this idea a highlight during the script writing stage.
“I wanted to make a film that felt like it was released in 1997, like a Vietnamese film of my parents' generation, in my memories growing up,” the director said.

The director said, “Crippled Heart” is not only a story about the journey to find the truth, but also a journey deep into the psychology of each character when they are in a relationship, the resentments that make viewers ponder. The conflicts are often seen in seemingly simple couples, seemingly beautiful relationships that are rotten from the inside. So when a murder suddenly happens like the last straw, revealing the truths hidden deep in each soul covered by fake happiness.
“For me, love has no beauty or ugliness or good or bad. Love has no factions, it does not belong to anyone in a relationship. For me, love is only sweet or bitter. It is a 'force' that can help us achieve many things and can also destroy us. Like a double-edged sword” - director Quoc Cong shared.

The film features actors Xuan Van, Nhat Linh, Viet Hung and especially Quach Ngoc Ngoan returning to the big screen after 7 years of absence.
The film is produced by Toka Studio, distributed by Galaxy Studio, and is scheduled to be released nationwide on November 7.
