These are the images in the short clip that many people on TikTok have seen and shared a lot in recent days. The image of a friend in a military uniform dancing on the walls and the unique painting gradually appeared, captivating the viewers.
He is Ta Van Tiep (30 years old, from Bac Giang ). His TikTok account named Tiep Tuc Tien has so far attracted over 41,000 followers, with nearly 420,000 likes for clips sharing how to make 3D wall paintings.
TA VAN TIEP
Passion of a discharged soldier
In a clip with nearly 2 million views, the demobilized soldier was quite humorous with his poetic recitation: "I've finished the painting, I wonder if you're satisfied yet." The response of an older man was equally funny: "If you ask, I'll tell you that my daughter is still not married," making many people laugh and say, "The young man chose the right father-in-law."
Next, we took advantage of our breaks and free time to record clips, then cut, edit, add music and post them on TikTok for fun. However, many people supported us so we made more clips.
"There are many uncles and aunts who want to be their sons-in-law, but until now I still don't have any girlfriends who want to be my husbands" - Tiep smiled and meticulously instructed students on how to mix mortar and get the foundation of the painting.
The mural workshop is about a few hundred square meters, hidden in a deep alley always covered with cement near Thang town (Hiep Hoa, Bac Giang). In his familiar soldier uniform, Tiep said that at first he chose to study refrigeration, but after about half a month he gave up, decided to study painting and has been attached to the mural painting job ever since.
It is easy to say but difficult to learn. When he first came to Hanoi , Tiep asked for a job as an assistant to learn the job. Once he had mastered the techniques, he would make and sell products and save money to buy teaching materials. Whenever he saw someone working, he would ask to go along without hesitation.
"The first time I completed a countryside painting, I was highly appreciated by everyone in the class and the teacher. I felt that I had chosen the right career and passion" - Tiep laughed.
With his profession, this guy from Bac Giang traveled everywhere to take on jobs, sometimes in Hung Yen , sometimes in Quang Ninh, Nam Dinh, regardless of the sun or rain. Coming from the army, Tiep told himself "the army forged my will, the sun or rain, hardship is normal" and considered the challenges when I first started my career as a training mission, once I did it, I had to complete it.
However, there were times when it was too difficult, Tiep wanted to give up. But remembering the words of the captain of the 86th Chemical Brigade, "Comrades, after you leave the army, try to find a job to stick with and develop, no matter how hard or difficult it is," he made an effort.
Share jobs, create jobs
Taking advantage of not having a project yet, we accepted 20 students, including those who have studied drawing for many years, and some who have never held a trowel, trowel, or drill before. The weather in the North is drizzly and humid, the wet ground makes your shoes stick wherever you go, but everyone is excited, working and pointing out each line of the petals and each vein on the leaves.
The lifeless walls, through the hands of the students in the soldier’s class, seemed to be breathed into life. The peacocks that were just black ink strokes a few minutes ago suddenly stood out as if they were about to spread their wings.
Teacher Tiep said that making murals requires meticulousness, carefulness, plus a bit of artistic talent and an aesthetic eye to create the most vivid details.
"To create beautiful paintings, everyone must learn the basics, from mixing mortar to cutting blocks, trimming flowers, and pruning branches" - Tiep said while instructing students how to use two fingers to place the trowel at a 60-degree angle, cutting the mortar firmly, with both ends pointed to create blocks.
A complete and beautiful painting, according to Tiep, must have depth, harmonious composition, sharp details, bright colors and express the soul of the subject.
When asked about his income, he proudly boasted that many customers pay up to 8 million VND/m2, while for normal terracotta paintings he only charges about 3 - 5 million VND/m2, sometimes even lower if the customer lives nearby. Each month, he and his assistants can do about 30m2, so their income is quite stable.
He said he really likes people to call him by the name Tiep Tuc Tien. He is still learning new techniques and will expand his teaching to anyone who is passionate about mural painting.
"When I have a certain amount of capital, I will accept more brothers, maybe retired soldiers who share the same passion but are in difficult circumstances, and teach them the profession for free" - Tiep said about his upcoming plans.
Inspirational training of will
Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Van Thang - Political Commissar of the Military Command of Hiep Hoa District (Bac Giang) - said that he was the one who shared Ta Van Tiep's TikTok page "Continue Progress" to spread the spirit of soldiers. To see that even after finishing military service, each soldier still maintains the will and determination to overcome difficulties, work well and transmit positive energy to those around them.
According to Mr. Thang, the military environment helps Tiep have a working spirit and actively teaches vocational skills, creating jobs for other young people. "I hope that more young people will continue to contribute, study, and fulfill their military service to build their character and will, and when they return to their hometowns, they will promote the spirit of a soldier, become good citizens, and contribute to society" - Lieutenant Colonel Thang expressed.
