What causes vestibular disorders in children?

Vestibular disorders in children are caused by many factors, including chronic otitis media, meningitis, or head trauma. In addition, if the mother drinks alcohol, beer, or smokes during pregnancy, it can also cause the child to become ill while still in the womb.

Often, vestibular disorders in children are more difficult to recognize than in adults because they are too young to perceive and describe the problem they are having. Therefore, parents need to pay more attention to their children.

In addition to the above causes, there is also the cause of learning pressure. This is a reality that is happening today. Every parent always wants their child to have good results in learning, but the pressure from family and school has unintentionally caused stress and fear in children. Therefore, when you see your child with eyes that are dull, dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous... it is when the child is being attacked by vestibular disorders.

What to do when children have vestibular disorders?

Children with vestibular disorders will potentially have many dangerous complications, directly affecting the health and daily life of the child. Therefore, if the child shows signs of illness, parents need to take the child immediately to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

If your child shows signs of dizziness or headache, parents should let the child rest in a quiet space. Let the child lie in a suitable position such as lying on his side or back, not lying on his stomach.

If your child is nauseous, encourage him to vomit, but then give him a cup of warm milk to drink. This will help replace lost fluids and electrolytes.

In addition, it is necessary to give children a reasonable diet, supplement nutrients, increase vitamins A, B, Omega 3, calcium... and other necessary minerals. Increase green vegetables and fruits to supplement necessary fiber. Supplementing vitamin C for children helps to quickly reduce uncomfortable headaches. Make sure children drink enough water every day, combined with fruit juices, vegetable juices, nutritional milk. Stay away from dry, hard foods, spicy, greasy foods or foods with too many spices.

Children should be encouraged to practice vestibular rehabilitation exercises every day. Children should not be allowed to participate in thrilling games such as roller coasters, slides, swings, etc.
