With many paintings drawn by deaf children themselves, the exhibition "Memoirs" hopes to help disadvantaged children speak up and express their dreams through art.

On October 17, 2024, the Memoir exhibition was opened at the Art & Auction Center, 75 Hang Bo, Hanoi . The exhibition is an activity in the 52Hz event series of the Palette of Sound (POS) volunteer organization - a club founded by a group of high school students with the desire to create an environment that supports and encourages the psychological development of deaf-mute children through art.

The event aims to help deaf children speak up and freely express their dreams through art. In addition to displaying works by deaf children, the exhibition also features the participation of a number of young artists who want to auction their paintings to raise funds for deaf children, while also spreading positive messages about these disadvantaged people.

Previously, the hearing-impaired children participated in the 52Hz workshop program, where they were exchanged and trained in some skills to create products and works from environmentally friendly materials. By participating in this workshop, the children had interesting experiences and had the opportunity to express their emotions, thoughts, desires, etc. through art. Each painting contains the children's very real desires and dreams.

The Head of the Organizing Committee of the "Memoirs" exhibition is 12th grade female student Pham Gia Linh (wearing glasses).

Sharing about the exhibition, Pham Gia Linh - a student of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Head of the Organizing Committee, said: I am a lover of painting, when I had the opportunity to interact with deaf friends of the same age, I realized that many of them had talent and desire but did not have the opportunity to develop, did not have the opportunity to express. That motivated me to create a playground to popularize basic knowledge about speech disabilities to the community, so that everyone can understand and sympathize more with deaf people.

"Instead of thinking that they are disabled people, we can realize that deaf people are simply a community with a different language and way of communicating. Through the paintings, the exhibition "Reciting Words" hopes that people will have a comprehensive and positive view of deaf people as well as sympathize and accept them," Pham Gia Linh expressed.

According to Pham Gia Linh, when she first met deaf friends, she had to ask for an interpreter. Then she went online to learn more about the body language of deaf friends, and learned the embossed alphabet so she could talk and communicate with them.

" Reflection means "responding to voices". The voices here are the voices of deaf children, who, due to physical disabilities, have not been understood or accepted by the surrounding society. I hope that the voices, thoughts and more importantly, the dreams that deaf children have expressed on the drawings decorated with seashells will be listened to, respected and responded to", the 12th grade student expressed.

Pham Gia Linh also added that with the image of seashells on the paintings, the Organizing Committee of the Memoirs exhibition wants to convey the message: Listen and learn about the nameless sounds, the "pearls" hidden deep inside each person. Here specifically the deaf, to understand, love, protect them and recognize the beauty of the soul hidden by physical disabilities.

The Memoir Exhibition takes place over 2 days, October 17 and 18, 2024. It is known that all paintings in the exhibition are attached with QR codes so that art lovers can learn more about the meaning of the paintings as well as learn about the author.
