(NLDO)- Integrating AI intoeducation raises important issues regarding privacy, data security and ethical use of technology.
On November 22, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City organized a scientific conference "Big data and artificial intelligence (AI) in education: From challenge to breakthrough".
Technology supports but cannot replace humans
According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of the city, integrating AI into education raises important questions about privacy, data security and ethical use of technology. It is necessary to ensure that students' personal information is protected and that the use of AI does not lead to inequality in access to education. In addition, it is necessary to consider the role of teachers in educational environments applying AI, how to make technology a supporting tool rather than a replacement for humans. This is especially important in the field of education and training, which is human-centered and targeted.
Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the city is implementing AI solutions in education and training by using AI in analyzing behavioral data and learning orientation. Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and a major education and training center, leading the country in educational innovation. The Department of Education and Training manages a network of schools with a total scale of more than 1.7 million students, so implementing solutions to improve the quality and effectiveness of education is urgent.
Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, spoke at the conference.
Recognizing the potential of AI in addressing educational challenges, the Department of Education and Training has set a goal of deploying AI solutions across the entire education sector. However, it also faces significant challenges, including infrastructure limitations, policy constraints in purchasing the necessary hardware, and financial considerations when using cloud-based AI services...
However, despite infrastructure and policy challenges, the Department of Education and Training has leveraged the industry’s available big data resources to develop and deploy AI solutions. The Department has used collaborative models to mobilize resources for implementation. Expanding data integration across multiple platforms, improving data quality, and fostering collaborative efforts are critical to realizing the full potential of AI in education...

With the presentation "Analysis of some knowledge standardization models in the world to identify knowledge units towards building a digital learning resource warehouse according to the 2018 General Education Program", Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of the City, said that building a unified digital learning resource warehouse, contributing to the digitalization of educational materials is necessary. This not only facilitates access, distribution and reuse of knowledge but also ensures the consistency between learning material content and educational programs, optimizes the teaching and learning process on a digital platform, effectively supporting the digital transformation process in education.
However, to successfully build a learning resource warehouse, it is necessary to consider objective and subjective factors; ensure resources: human resources, material resources, financial resources and conditions to maintain the operating system. A digital learning resource warehouse that is identified and rich in content will be the fundamental foundation to continue to perfect a comprehensive and overall capacity assessment framework, meeting the requirements to meet the common goals of the 2018 General Education Program, contributing to improving the quality of education in Vietnam.
Changing the feeling of fear of technology
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Lan, General Director of EMG Education, said that the unit has applied AI in teaching English as a second language, specifically applying generative AI to practice knowledge and comment on students' work.
According to Ms. Lan, an example of an AI application used by EMG Education is Speechace, an AI tool that provides detailed feedback on students’ pronunciation. The tool not only tells students whether they are pronouncing the word correctly, but also points out exactly which phonemes are incorrect and models how to pronounce the word correctly.
Another example is EMG's Quilliam, an AI-generated virtual tutor that EMG students have been interacting with and using. Students are using Quilliam to practice speaking English in preparation for the speaking test on Pearson's PEIC exam...

In addition, according to Ms. Lan, AI chatbots provide students with the opportunity to use their English skills interactively, just like they would in real life, but without the anxiety of having to do so in front of a class or with a native speaker. With the latest generation of LLM, users can use speech-to-speech capabilities to have a natural conversation back and forth with an AI-powered virtual English tutor...

Mr. Nguyen Son Hai, Director of the Department of Information Technology - Ministry of Education and Training, assessed that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has been very proactive, pioneering, and approaching new technologies in the education and training sector. Mr. Hai said that people have now changed their thinking about AI. Previously, there was an opinion that it would replace humans, so some people felt afraid of technology, but now AI is an effective tool for learning, and how to use it is up to each person to decide.
Mr. Nguyen Son Hai, Director of Department of Information Technology - Ministry of Education and Training.
According to Mr. Hai, AI effectively supports educational activities, but it also brings challenges. Specifically, if it is overused in educational activities, students will reduce interaction, lose independent thinking, and pose a challenge for teachers in changing teaching methods and assessment methods... "Only when we clearly see the challenges will there be solutions to apply AI effectively and in the right direction" - Mr. Hai said.
Mr. Jason See, Director of Technology (Ministry of Education, Singapore), said that artificial intelligence is just a tool, a component of today's life. Therefore, students and teachers need to know, understand and use it appropriately. Artificial intelligence cannot replace teachers, when teachers apply them to their work, they are powerful tools for digital transformation of education. Mr. Jason See also affirmed that artificial intelligence will have a significant impact on education if there is no appropriate management and impact policy, carelessness in applying artificial intelligence will cause education to deviate. Therefore, training and educating teachers to understand artificial intelligence is very important.
