With 10th grade exam scores, parents look for "Plan B" for their children

(NLDO) - Without waiting for public high schools to announce 10th grade benchmark scores, many parents have found backup plans to ensure their children's education.

At exactly 8:30 a.m. on June 23, the Ho Chi Minh City Departmentof Education and Training announced the 10th grade exam scores. Many candidates expressed their joy because their exam scores were as expected, with a high chance of passing their first choice. However, many parents whose children scored low on the exam began to "sit still", calling and consulting everywhere.

Students and parents begin to look for a "plan B" in case they cannot get into a public high school as originally desired.

Ms. Minh Vuong (living in District 12) sighed and said: "My son has good academic performance and is very confident in math. However, his exam scores are completely opposite. The family is wondering whether to file a re-examination or choose a private high school or vocational training center for him."

Similarly, on Facebook groups, many posts in anonymous mode said they did not know whether to wait for additional enrollment quotas or choose vocational schools or private high schools to ensure more safety.

Speaking to reporters at noon on June 23, Master Huynh Trong Hieu, Vice Principal of Dai Viet College, Ho Chi Minh City (Thu Duc City), said that right after the 10th grade exam results were released, many parents came to the school to ask for vocational training advice.

"Although there is no admission score for public high schools yet, parents have guessed their children's chances of being admitted. Instead of waiting until the last minute, many parents have proactively researched vocational schools, and in some cases, they have decided to study vocational schools today," said Master Hieu.

According to Master Hieu, for the 9+ intermediate level, students will study a 7-subject cultural program, which serves as a foundation for vocational training and national general knowledge. The school's enrollment target for the 9+ intermediate level this year is about 150 students. Currently, the school has reached about 50% of the target.

The rate of high school graduates from vocational education centers and vocational schools has increased in recent years.

Similarly, the Go Vap District Continuing Education Center also recorded a significant increase in the number of candidates coming to complete admission procedures.

Mr. Pham Minh Tung, Director of the Go Vap District Continuing Education Center, said this is a trend of many students and parents looking for "another way" in the context of many fluctuations in the competition rate for admission to public 10th grade.

The center's students mainly come from neighboring areas such as Go Vap District, District 12... Some students also proactively submitted their applications in early June, before the exam results were released. The center's enrollment target this year is about 500 students.

"With the GDTX program, students can completely participate in the national high school graduation exam to get admission scores to universities. This means that although the starting points of students are not the same, if they try hard enough, make an effort, and are determined, they can completely conquer the university door" - Mr. Tung emphasized.

Compared to the 2024-2025 school year, this year's enrollment in vocational education and continuing education seems to be more difficult.

MSc. Hieu admitted that this year's enrollment signal is not like every year because the quota for public grade 10 has changed.

This year, 76,435 candidates registered for the exam, down 27,330 from last year. It is expected that this year, only more than 6,000 candidates will leave the race to enter public grade 10.
