Previously, households in Ta Leng Sung and Nam Gia villages, Ban Lang commune lived in places with steep slopes. On the villages, there were many large, precarious rocks that could collapse at any time, especially during the rainy season.
Faced with this situation, Phong Tho district has implemented a project to relocate residents in areas at risk of natural disasters; ensuring safety and stabilizing the lives of 32 households in their new homes. The project was completed in July 2024; to date, households have moved to the resettlement area, built houses and are gradually stabilizing their new lives.
Arriving at the resettlement site of Ban Lang 2, Ban Lang commune, where 32 new households were moved, cars can now reach each house, the concrete road is wide, all households have built solid houses, there are no wooden houses or temporary houses like before.
Mr. Giang A Vang confided that his family used to live in a dilapidated wooden house. When they moved, the house was completely destroyed. When they moved to a new place, they borrowed money from the bank, and asked for help from the villagers. The family built a new, spacious house. The house was solidly built, not afraid of rain or wind. Now that they are here, going to the market or going to the commune center is very convenient. In the old place, if it rained, they couldn't go anywhere...
Similarly, Ms. Giang Thi Dua, another resident, said that her family used to live in Ta Leng Sung village, and it was very difficult; during the rainy season, they were always worried and could not sleep. Especially in the rainy season of 2023, a rock larger than 1 meter suddenly rolled down and collapsed the pigsty, fortunately there were no casualties. Now that the government has invested in moving them to a new resettlement site, the family is very happy, this rainy season they no longer have to worry like before.

People urgently complete houses at their new residence before the rainy season. |
In the period of 2021-2025, Phong Tho district has approved investment in 3 projects to relocate residents out of landslide risk areas; to date, construction and relocation of 1 project has been completed.
It is expected that in 2025, construction of 2 more projects with a total investment of more than 50 billion VND will be completed from the capital source of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas.
The project, when completed, will arrange for the relocation of 189 households living in areas at high risk of landslides to new, safe places. Currently, the projects are being rushed to speed up progress.
Mr. Vu Manh Tuyen, Deputy Director of Phong Tho District Project Management Board, affirmed that in order to ensure the construction progress, the progress of capital disbursement, and timely relocation of residents from areas at risk of natural disasters according to plan, we have closely coordinated with relevant units to quickly resolve problems in the process of compensation and site clearance. At the same time, we urge contractors to implement construction measures to ensure speeding up the progress, not letting people living in risky areas wait for the project due to delays or delays.
Currently, in addition to the completed Ban Lang 2 resettlement project, other sites are also being urgently constructed.

Another residential arrangement project is being urgently implemented in Phong Tho district. |
However, the process of compensation and site clearance in construction projects still faces many difficulties and problems. For example, some households have requests for compensation and support higher than the prescribed level; requesting to reclaim the entire plot of land with a large area of agricultural land, while the project only affects a very small part, this is inappropriate.
During the propaganda and mobilization process, there are still some households that do not accept explanations, causing difficulties for the implementing units... In addition, the capital allocated for the above-mentioned ongoing projects under the National Target Program is still limited in terms of funding; not enough to invest in basic infrastructure, no funding to solidify roads, funding to build embankments at key locations...
To ensure the construction progress on schedule, helping people to have new housing soon, the investor is coordinating with local authorities, organizations, and organizing meetings and dialogues with people to resolve the subjective difficulties and problems as mentioned above. At the same time, it is hoped that relevant agencies will continue to allocate funds to complete the essential and synchronous infrastructure system. Thus, when people move to their new housing, they can feel secure and quickly stabilize their lives.
