In recent days, the weather in Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern provinces has been cold. Especially at night and early morning, the temperature has dropped sharply. On December 23, in Ho Chi Minh City, the temperature measured in Nha Be was 20 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperature in the South is in Phuoc Long ( Binh Phuoc ) 16.3 degrees Celsius, Long Khanh (Dong Nai) 17.8 degrees Celsius... According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, after cold sunny days, the weather in the South will have rain on Christmas.

The most beautiful season of the year still has people getting sick

Many people in Ho Chi Minh City "happily" welcome the pleasant weather, which is quite rare all year. Ms. NTV, 45 years old, living in Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, shared:

"These days, waking up in the morning always reminds me of the winter days in my hometown, even though they are not as cold. My wife, children and I put on warm clothes to go to work and school in the cold weather, and I feel happy to receive the "special gift of the weather".

Although the whole family of Ms. NHX, 48 years old, living in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, also happily welcomed the cold weather during Christmas, currently the whole family of 5 members of Ms. X. are sick.

The first person was Ms. X. who had a sore throat, then her mother-in-law had a fever. Currently, her husband and two sons are constantly sneezing. Ms. X. went to the doctor and was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection, and was prescribed medication to treat the illness.

Lying at home recovering from her illness, Ms. X. said that the reason she got sick was because she got caught in the rain and did not wear warm clothes in the morning when the weather turned cold. "When I was healthy, I liked this kind of weather, but when I was sick, I was afraid," Ms. X. said.

Doctor CKII Nguyen Hoang Phong, head of the respiratory department 1 of Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City, said that from September to December is the season of respiratory diseases, so during this time the number of children with respiratory diseases coming for examination and hospitalization increases.

Doctor Phong explained, "During this time, due to temperature changes, sometimes the temperature drops low, children's respiratory tracts are sensitive and are at risk of respiratory diseases."

"To prevent respiratory diseases in children, especially in cold weather, parents should also give their children enough water, fruit and vitamins. In cold weather, keep children warm, clean the place where they live, and limit taking children to crowded places and places with cigarette smoke.

When children have respiratory symptoms such as mild fever, cough, mild runny nose... they should also be taken to pediatricians for examination, diagnosis and timely treatment. Avoid letting children get seriously ill because then it will be difficult to treat them in the hospital," Dr. Hoang Phong noted.

Dr. Tran Anh Tuan, head of the respiratory department at Children's Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, said that when the weather temperature drops like today, the most important thing to do is to keep children warm.

During the day, there are times when the weather is colder and other times when it is warmer. Caregivers need to monitor the child to add or remove clothes. In addition, children need to be fed well to increase their resistance, wash their hands regularly, and children should be fully vaccinated in the expanded immunization program, including flu and pneumococcal vaccines.

What to prepare for a happy and peaceful Christmas?

Dr. Tran Thanh Du, Head of the Examination Department at Gia Dinh People's Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, said that cold weather is the ideal temperature for respiratory pathogens to develop. In particular, flu, sore throat, pneumonia, or patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease... are susceptible to the onset of the disease.

Ho Chi Minh City often has high temperatures, these days the temperature has dropped suddenly, more than ten degrees Celsius compared to before, which will also affect people with high blood pressure. These people can have stroke, heart attack.

To prevent cold weather, according to Dr. Du, it is necessary to wear warm clothes and masks when going outside, especially when it is cold outside such as early morning and evening. During this time, it is necessary to keep warm vulnerable areas such as the neck, hands and feet. In addition, personal hygiene should also be maintained regularly.

This year, in addition to the cold weather on Christmas Day, which is predicted to bring rain, Dr. Du said there are ways to prepare to have fun but still not get sick. Specifically, when going out, you need to choose appropriate clothes, choose warm clothes. When it is predicted to rain, you need to bring a raincoat or umbrella, and wear waterproof shoes.

When going out, you should bring a bottle of personal sanitizer to clean your hands before eating and drinking. When going out for Christmas, you should also avoid crowded places because when stuck in traffic, you will have to stand outside in the cold and rain, which can cause hypothermia and make you susceptible to illness.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that since early this morning, the weather in the South has been showery, with some places experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms. The cause is due to the distant influence of storm No. 10 combined with the cold air that is spreading down.

During this Christmas, rain will appear in many places in the South. Especially on December 25, in the Southeast, in the late afternoon to night, there will be some places with moderate to heavy rain. The provinces in the Southwest will have showers.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the clouds will change, with light fog in the early morning and intermittent sunshine during the day. In the evening, there will be showers and thunderstorms in some places. During thunderstorms, beware of strong gusts of wind and tornadoes.

At sea from Ba Ria - Vung Tau to Ca Mau (including Ho Chi Minh City), the wind is level 4-5, the sea is normal. The sea north of Ba Ria - Vung Tau is rough, wave height is 1.5-3m. The sea from Ca Mau to Kien Giang and Phu Quoc is level 3-4, the sea is normal, wave height is 0.5-1.5m. In both seas, there are scattered showers and thunderstorms.

After Christmas, the rain will decrease, the weather in the South will be better, sunny days are common, no rain. During the New Year holiday in the South, the weather will be cool and pleasant in the early morning. However, it will not be as cold as the past few days.
