Steam locomotive - one of the symbols of Vietnam Railway industry.
Coming to the exhibition “Steam Locomotives”, people and tourists will have a chance to see again one of the symbols of the Railway industry - a witness who participated in the war against America to save the country. Steam locomotives were also the pride of the Railway industry during a difficult time.
Around 1965, engineers of Gia Lam Railway Factory, with the help of Chinese engineers, successfully researched and designed a steam locomotive with the serial number 141-179. After that, about 50 locomotives of this type, named Tu Luc, were produced to serve the freight transport needs in the North.
People and tourists will be able to admire the first locomotive of the Vietnam Railway industry.
The locomotives are also one of the historical witnesses participating in the resistance war against the US of our nation. During the years when the war against the US escalated, the production of locomotives was temporarily suspended, the existing trains "competed" to transport goods, weapons, food... to support the battlefield in the South.
The locomotive numbered 141-179 was once placed as a locomotive monument at Vinh Station Square and is expected to be brought to the Hanoi Museum for display with the hope of continuing to spread the historical values of Hanoi.
The locomotives named Tu Luc in general and locomotive 141-179 in particular are not only milestones for research achievements, but also demonstrate the will of self-reliance, self-strengthening, and efforts to overcome difficulties of the staff of the Vietnam Railway industry in particular and the whole country in the period of fighting against the US to save the country in general.
