China's Finance Ministry said it will impose an additional 34% tariff on all US goods starting April 10.

Beijing also announced export controls on medium and heavy rare earths, including samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium and yttrium, to the United States, effective from April 4.

"The purpose of the Chinese government 's implementation of export control measures is to safeguard national security and interests and fulfill international obligations," China's Ministry of Commerce said in a statement.

The ministry added 11 US companies to its "unreliable entities" list, allowing Beijing to take punitive action.

Beijing also imposed export controls on 16 US companies, banning exports of dual-use Chinese goods.

Earlier, on April 2, US President Trump announced an additional 34% tariff on all Chinese goods imported into the US, a move that could exacerbate trade tensions between the world's two largest economies .

Mr Trump later said he would consider a deal involving TikTok, in which China agreed to sell the app to the US in exchange for reduced tariffs on Chinese goods.
