Earlier the same day, President Xi Jinping nominated Mr. Li Qiang, 63 years old, as a candidate for Chinese prime minister .
According to Xinhua News Agency , Mr. Li Qiang received 2,936 votes in favor, 3 votes against, and 8 blank votes.
Thus, Mr. Li Qiang will replace Mr. Li Keqiang as China's prime minister for the next 5 years. Mr. Li Keqiang held this position for 10 years (2013-2023).

The Hindustan Times newspaper quoted a report saying that Mr. Li Qiang was previously the Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee.
Mr. Li Qiang is one of President Xi Jinping's close associates, having served under Xi as Party Secretary in Zhejiang Province.
Last October, Li Qiang was elected to the Politburo Standing Committee of China at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Also on the morning of March 11, Mr. Zhang Youxia and Mr. He Weidong were elected Vice Chairmen of the Central Military Commission ( CMC ).
CMC members include Li Shangfu, Liu Zhenli, Miao Hua and Zhang Shengmin.
Meanwhile, Mr. Liu Jinguo was elected as Chairman of the National Supervisory Commission (NCS), and Mr. Zhang Jun held the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court.
