Special industry, misunderstood as "working with morgues"
The "Match Day" for resident doctors choosing a major at Hanoi Medical University took place on September 9 and attracted great public attention.
Each major that was named expressed the joy of both teachers and students of Hanoi Medical University. Notably, many information shared on social networks: the major of human anatomy was chosen by a resident doctor for the first time during the 3 years of organizing “Match Day”.
“Many people misunderstood and jokingly said that the two of us could handle the whole morgue,” Associate Professor, Dr. Ngo Xuan Khoa, Head of the Department of Anatomy, Hanoi Medical University, shared.
Associate Professor Khoa shared the joy of the subject's teachers and corrected the information: "The information spread on the internet is because people do not fully understand the Anatomy major.
When resident physician Nguyen Dinh Tien Trung chose Anatomy, he was the first person to choose this major this year.

It is incorrect to say that it has only been 3 years since someone chose this major. The 3 majors that are often confused with each other are Anatomy, Pathology, and Forensic Medicine.
This year , the Department of Anatomy has 2 quotas, one for Hanoi Medical University and 1 for Hanoi Medical University Branch in Thanh Hoa and has completed the quota.
There are currently a total of 9 residents receiving specialized training. In 2022, 1 resident will be selected, in 2023 5 will be selected, and in 2024 the department will select 1 resident.
“Anatomy is the study and teaching of the normal structure of the human body. Anatomy has three goals: in-depth medical examination and treatment, scientific research and teaching,” Associate Professor Khoa happily replied.
Residency in any specialty is equally difficult.
“Residency in any specialty is equally difficult. Becoming a medical practitioner is not an easy path; one must go through hardships, struggle in the hospital environment, make efforts and persevere.
The important thing is not the order of choosing a major, but how each person builds value for the major they pursue," Associate Professor Khoa shared the words of Professor Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, President of Hanoi Medical University.
Associate Professor Khoa said that he entered the 17th residency program, at that time the quota was 20 people. Each major at that time only selected 1-2 people and could not choose the major because the school would assign.
But now everyone is a leader in their field, loves and wants to contribute more to their field.
“Anatomy is a tough field, but I love it. The teachers in the department always respect their students and are ready to welcome residents to the Department of Anatomy,” Associate Professor Khoa said.
The Head of the Department of Anatomy at Hanoi Medical University added that this year's quota of more than 400 resident doctors shows the need of society and the increasing number of good doctors who are ready to contribute to the country's medicine.
Specifically, this year, the residency training program enrolls 426 students for 38 majors, of which 402 are for Hanoi Medical University; 13 are for Thanh Hoa Branch; 6 are for Lao Cai Department of Health ; and 5 are for Thai Nguyen Central Hospital.
