NDO - On May 24, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH), UEH School of Technology and Design (CTD), UEH Institute of Innovation (UII) and Center for Technology Incubation and Innovation Support (ISC) co-organized the talk show "Startup and Investment".

This event is part of the academic and sharing program series, an academic initiative of the UEH School of Technology and Design to promote knowledge sharing, connecting experts, businesses and the community. Thereby, improving research capacity for the community and creating practical values ​​for sustainable development.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Quang Hung, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , said that the talk show “Startup and Investment” is a meaningful next activity in the journey to realize the Innovative University Strategy that the school is pursuing, with the goal of becoming a multidisciplinary university, aiming for sustainable development and creating comprehensive value (holistic value) for society.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Quang Hung emphasized that the role of startups and investment lies not only in economic growth but also as a catalyst to promote the connection between subjects in the innovation ecosystem, especially the 4P model: Public-Private-People-Partnership.

In this, universities, as public sector entities, play a role in connecting knowledge, policy and community.

At the talk show, experts said that starting a business is not just a personal story but a journey of convergence and connection between academic knowledge, advanced technology and strategic investment capital.

“Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is committed to accompanying the startup community through academic initiatives linked to practice such as today's Talkshow,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ha Minh Quan, Principal of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City's Talent School.

With over 40 years of experience running businesses in many countries, speaker Thuy Mai, Chairman of RainScales, member of the Board of Directors of FreightVerify Inc, member of GOOSE Investment Fund, brought to the talkshow practical lessons from the journey of founding 3 technology companies and expanding operations in 7 countries.

It emphasizes the importance of building a sustainable business model, preparing a team for international expansion, and connecting with a global investor network right from the early stages of startups.

In her talk, speaker Thuy Mai highlighted the importance of early connection with international investor networks, as well as building a transparent legal and financial foundation, which are core elements for Vietnamese startups to break through and reach out globally.

According to speaker Thuy Mai, Vietnam is facing a great opportunity to rise on the global startup map. “But to do that, startups need to change their mindset, not just stopping at solving domestic problems, but thinking about creating global value, applying new trends such as AI (artificial intelligence), automation and sustainable development to lead the game,” speaker Thuy Mai emphasized.

The talk show focuses on discussing and sharing topics of current interest such as the application of artificial intelligence, automation of operating processes in startup models, especially in the context of businesses having to quickly adapt to the global market.

The talkshow also opened up in-depth discussions on sustainable investment trends, integrating ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria into business models to create long-term competitive advantages to help startups prepare to enter the international market.
