Applying 4.0 technology in managing and operating the power grid in Lao Cai

NDO - Implementing the digital transformation process, improving the quality of human resources as well as customer service, in recent times, many new technologies have been applied by Van Ban Electricity (Lao Cai) to serve the management and operation of the power grid...

Van Ban Electricity is currently managing, operating and selling electricity on the grid from 0.4kV to 35kV with 197 transformer stations; 384.93km of medium voltage lines and 511.78km of low voltage lines, spanning 22 communes and towns in Van Ban district and Phu Nhuan commune, Bao Thang district, Lao Cai province.

Director of Van Ban Electricity Trinh Tien Thanh said: In order to improve production and business efficiency, increase labor productivity, and minimize safety risks for workers, the unit has proactively promoted the application of science and technology in operation management, such as: Checking the power grid with flycam equipment, thermal cameras, super room cameras...

The technology currently being used to bring high efficiency in managing and operating the power grid is using flycam equipment to inspect the power grid. When using flycam, power workers only need to stand at one point to check the pole positions in detail, observe the line corridor from above, and check in lines with complex terrain, difficult to access directly or take a long time to access.

Through the computer, the image data captured by the flycam will be analyzed, processed, and promptly detect unsafe points on the line, insulators, conductors, lightning protection wires, status of electrical equipment, accessories, etc.

Thanks to that, every day, the management team can check dozens of kilometers of power lines, increasing labor productivity and work efficiency. Also thanks to the use of flycam equipment to check the power grid, the operation management workers can get close to the energized equipment, film and capture clear images with high accuracy and reliability.

Thermal cameras are also modern devices that use electromagnetic radiation sensor technology using infrared rays to measure the temperature of systems, lines, and electrical equipment on the medium and low voltage grid. The use of thermal cameras has helped Van Ban Power Company detect early and prevent signs and unusual phenomena on the distribution grid that are at risk of incidents that are difficult to detect when inspected with the naked eye, focusing on peak hours and hot weather days when the load increases.

In particular, the thermal camera has helped workers check at the locations of isolators, circuit breakers, transformer terminals, rudders, joints, circuit breakers, etc. to promptly detect abnormal heat generation due to overload or equipment failure for timely handling and repair, preventing incidents from occurring.

According to Director Trinh Tien Thanh, the application of 4.0 technology such as flycam, thermal camera... into the management and operation of Van Ban Power's power grid has actively contributed to improving production and business efficiency, increasing labor productivity, saving time, costs and ensuring the safety of workers operating the power grid.
