According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son, when universities stop considering the C00 combination and offer inappropriate alternative combinations, it will affect the rights of candidates.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said he will ask schools to review when removing the C00 combination so as not to affect the rights of candidates.

According to the deputy minister, with most schools eliminating the C00 combination, candidates who register for the graduation exam with elective subjects such as history and geography still have the opportunity to be considered for admission if the school offers alternative combinations such as math - literature - history, math - literature - geography... or can choose another major.

However, there are a few majors that have replaced the C00 combination with inappropriate combinations, causing difficulties for candidates. The reason is that the training institutions have not reviewed carefully.

"The Ministryof Education and Training will have a document requesting schools to review to ensure the rights of candidates," said Mr. Son.

In the past few days, with nearly a month left until the high school graduation exam, some universities have suddenly stopped considering the C00 group (including literature, history, and geography), causing confusion for many candidates who are pursuing this group, as the door to university admission is limited.

At its peak, a university considered the "cradle" of the social sciences field stopped considering the C00 combination for 17 majors. Instead, the school considered combinations such as: D04 (math, literature, Chinese), D01 (math, literature, English), D06 (math, literature, Japanese), DD2 (math, literature, Korean), D15 (literature, English, geography), D14 (literature, English, history) and D66 (literature, English, economic and legal education). Candidates taking the two elective subjects of history and geography cannot access these combinations.

According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates taking the 2025 high school graduation exam will take two compulsory subjects including literature, math and two elective subjects from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12 (including foreign languages, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economic and legal education, information technology, technology).

An education expert said that it is reasonable and necessary for universities to reduce or eliminate admission to block C (literature, history, geography) in the context of the 2018 General Education Program and the new high school graduation exam from 2025.

Diversifying subject combinations, especially adding math and English, helps select candidates with a comprehensive knowledge base, meeting the requirements of modern fields of study and the trend of internationalization.

"The biggest problem lies in the late announcement by universities. Announcing the change in admission combinations just one month before the exam has caused confusion and great disadvantage for thousands of candidates who have focused on studying for block C since the beginning of high school, making it difficult for them to cope in time," he said.
