Primary school denies 37,000 VND lunch portion but portions are too small

In response to information on social media that the lunch for students at Phan Chu Trinh Primary School (Dak Lak) costs 37,000 VND but is very little, the school confirmed that this information is false and will ask the police to verify.

On September 29, a leader of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School (Buon Ma Thuot Ward, Dak Lak ; formerly Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak) said that the unit had reported to the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province about the incident related to the lunch of boarding students at the school.

On September 16, a picture of a lunch meal allegedly given to students at Phan Chu Trinh Primary School costing VND37,000 per meal appeared on social media. The picture quickly went viral, causing outrage among parents and the public, who believed the portion was too small for the amount of money paid.

Some opinions also suspect that the school has signs of "cutting" students' lunches.

The leader of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School said: "The posted image is indeed the student's meal, but it is an unfinished meal. The information that the lunch cost 37,000 VND is false. In fact, the meal on September 15th cost more than 22,000 VND, not 37,000 VND as shown on social networks."

The school also confirmed that all students' lunches are nutritious, hygienic, and balanced according to the agreement with parents.

According to the report, the school and parents have agreed on a boarding fee of 820,000 VND/student/month. Of which, 570,000 VND is for meals and 250,000 VND is for babysitting during sleeping hours.

At this level, a student’s lunch ranges from 15,000 to 31,000 VND, depending on the daily menu. In addition, students also have an afternoon snack with milk or other foods, worth 5,000 to 9,500 VND.

The Board of Directors of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School affirmed that the dissemination of false information has seriously affected the school's reputation and the trust of parents. The school will send a document to the police to investigate and clarify the incorrect quotes about the school's meals on social media.

"Currently, the school has not collected boarding fees but is making an advance payment. The collection will be made after the parent meeting. All expenses have transparent invoices and parents can directly supervise the students' lunches," said the school leader.
