In 1975, the country had just been unified, the land of Hung Nguyen district (old), Nghe An province was still full of difficulties. Hung Nguyen "study and work" high school was established, an educational model combining cultural studies and production labor.
Thatched-roof, earthen-walled classrooms in Ba To, Hung Thai commune; Eo Gio, Hung Tay commune; Mo Ro, then Dong Nha Hon… were all soaked in the sweat of teachers and students. Tables and chairs made of bamboo were carved by teachers and students themselves; planting seasons, plowing seasons, studying and working at the same time; nights spent studying with kerosene lamps… all of these have fostered perseverance, creating the character of a school “born from the hearts of the people - grown up with the will to be self-reliant”.
Ms. Cao Thi Van, a former teacher of the school from 1978 to 1981, recalled: “In those years, we both taught and participated with students in school activities such as planting rice and digging ditches. Although it was difficult, teachers and students always stood side by side, and that spirit has followed us throughout our lives."

Since 1983, the school has been named Thai Lao High School, associated with the historical site - where the Nghe Tinh Soviet flame once flared up brilliantly. This name not only acknowledges the past but also reminds the current generation of students of their responsibility to continue the tradition of a land rich in fighting spirit and desire for education.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Bich Hanh, Principal of Thai Lao High School, shared: “Named after Thai Lao, we always remind students of the resilient and studious spirit of our fathers. That tradition is the foundation for the school to develop, and at the same time, the motivation for each teacher and student to make constant efforts."

Entering a new phase, the school left the “study while working” model, focusing on improving the quality of comprehensive education. Up to now, Thai Lao has become one of the typical high schools in Nghe An province with 24 classes, more than 1,200 students; 61 teachers with 100% meeting standards, 43.6% above standards; 26 excellent teachers at the provincial level; for many consecutive years in the top of the province in terms of the number of excellent students and the rate of university entrance exams.
Not only strong in teaching quality, the Party and mass organizations in the school also reaped many achievements. The Party cell is clean and strong, the Trade Union is excellently strong, and the Youth Union has been awarded many times by the Central Youth Union and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union.

Hoang Thi Quynh Chi, class 12D2, a student at Thai Lao High School, shared: “I am proud to study at Thai Lao. Teachers not only teach knowledge but also train skills, helping us to form our will and spirit of independence. The school is like our second home."
From this school, more than 15,000 students have grown up to become scientists , doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessmen; many of whom hold important positions in agencies of the Party, State, armed forces, enterprises, etc. Mr. Luu Hong Lam, a former student of the school, said: "What I learned at Thai Lao has helped me confidently step into life. Even though I work far away from home, I always carry with me the spirit of studiousness and diligence from here."
The school's 50-year history is a story of dedicated teachers, such as: Le Xuan Bay, Nguyen Quyen, Hoang Duc Luc, Cao Xuan Ninh, Nguyen Van Thu, Tran Van Dong, Phan Tran Hai, Hoang Sy Luyen... along with hundreds of other teachers and staff who have tirelessly sowed knowledge and faith in students.
On the 50th anniversary, generations of teachers and students return, bringing old stories, words of gratitude to deceased teachers, meaningful gifts..., all creating a warm atmosphere, imbued with the Vietnamese morality of "respecting teachers and valuing education".

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its founding, the school was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal - a noble award recognizing the efforts and achievements of many generations. Thai Lao High School entered a new journey with the determination to maintain the title of national standard school, promote digital transformation in teaching and learning and school management, build a disciplined - friendly - creative educational environment, nurture and maximize the potential of each student, strive to become a typical bright spot of Nghe An education.
Principal Nguyen Thi Bich Hanh emphasized: “Every effort and effort of teachers and students is imprinted in every corner of the classroom, every corridor of Thai Lao High School. We are proud of the past. The achievements we have made are a source of pride, but what is more important is that the school continues to be a place to nurture knowledge, to nurture the aspirations and talents of each student."
Looking back half a century, Thai Lao High School has written a beautiful story about a school that grew up from hardship, matured with intelligence and courage, developed with love for the profession and responsibility of many generations. The past half a century is a solid foundation for the school to continue writing new chapters of the educational journey, sowing seeds of knowledge, arousing the desire to learn, so that every student can contribute to their homeland and country after graduation. Tradition from the people, future from aspiration.
