Posthumous promotion for major who died saving two drowning people

Phu Yen Ministry of National Defense posthumously promoted to lieutenant colonel the rank of Major Truong Hong Ky, who died while saving two drowning victims at Song Cau town beach.

Major Truong Hong Ky, 42 years old, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Military Command of Song Cau town, Military Region 5, was posthumously promoted ahead of schedule for bravely saving people.

On the afternoon of September 1, while on duty in the area, Major Ky discovered two people swimming at Dong Be beach, Xuan Thinh commune, being swept away by waves and struggling, so he swam out to save them.

After bringing the first person to shore, Major Ky continued to swim to save the remaining victim, but was exhausted by the big waves. He was taken to Song Cau Town Medical Center by local people for emergency treatment, but did not survive.

The remaining victim was later brought safely to shore.

Major Truong Hong Ky has a wife and two young children, currently living in Song Cau town. Today (September 2) is also Major Ky's birthday.
