On July 15, 1950, following the directive of President Ho Chi Minh , the Vietnam National Salvation Youth Union established the first Central Youth Volunteer Unit at Hong Mountain, Dinh Hoa District, Thai Nguyen Province, with 225 members participating in the Border Campaign. This event became a historical milestone that opened the glorious journey of the Vietnam Youth Volunteer Force - a special mass force that fought, served in combat, and worked in production throughout the length of the revolution. The Vietnam Youth Volunteer Force wrote heroic pages in the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, in the border protection, international obligations, and in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. With the spirit of "Nothing is difficult, only fear of not being steadfast", the Youth Volunteer Force is a typical symbol of generations of Vietnamese youth with revolutionary ideals, ready to rush to the front lines, accepting sacrifice for the common cause of the nation.
In that glorious historical flow, the Youth Volunteer Force of Ha Nam province has also made extremely important contributions. The Youth Volunteer Force unit named after the Hero of the People's Armed Forces Tran Van Chuong, an outstanding son of Ha Nam, was established in July 1965, in the midst of the fierce resistance war against the US to save the country. The officers and soldiers undertook many heavy and dangerous tasks at key fire lines such as Cau Giat - Thai Hoa railway, Road 20 Quyet Thang, Ta Le tunnel, Phu La Nhich pass, Long Dai ferry, Dong Loc intersection, Duc Tho - Tan Ap - La Khe - Minh Cam road, and many other strategic locations. Not only operating domestically, the Youth Volunteer Force teams of Ha Nam also directly participated in international missions in Laos, contributing to the cause of solidarity and helping the friendly country fight against the common enemy. With great contributions and outstanding achievements, in 1972, the Youth Volunteer Team against the US to save the country named Tran Van Chuong was awarded the noble title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" by the Party and State.
The war has ended, many former Youth Volunteers have returned to their localities, changed careers, continued to study, work and contribute in many fields. Despite many difficulties in life, former Youth Volunteers still maintain the qualities of soldiers in the past, setting a good example in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, actively participating in patriotic emulation movements and social work at the grassroots level. Many people hold important positions such as Party cell secretary, village chief, head of the Women's Union, president of the Elderly Association, etc.; many economic development models of families of former Youth Volunteers have created jobs for many local workers with stable incomes. Thereby continuing to affirm the role, prestige and influence of the Youth Volunteers in peacetime.
The Ha Nam Provincial Veterans Association currently has over 6,000 members operating in 98 grassroots organizations. The work of building and consolidating the association's organization in recent times has had many positive changes, contributing to improving the quality of activities, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new period. Associations at all levels have actively reviewed and guided members to complete their profiles and closely coordinated with functional agencies in resolving policies and regimes for nearly 5,500 members. This not only ensures the legitimate rights of former Youth Volunteers, but also contributes to strengthening trust, creating solidarity, and attracting members to the association.
As a spiritual support for members, the Ha Nam Provincial Veterans Association has continuously promoted the tradition of "comradely affection", becoming a warm common home where members share and help each other overcome difficulties in life. Aiming at the goal of "Living happily - Living healthily - Living usefully", the association at all levels has implemented many practical activities, typically: coordinating with organizations and individuals to support the construction and repair of 185 gratitude houses for members, giving over 100 savings books; organizing visits and giving gifts to members in difficult circumstances on holidays, Tet, the Youth Volunteers' Traditional Day July 15, War Invalids and Martyrs' Day July 27, etc.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, President of the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers, in the coming time, the association at all levels will continue to promote in-depth campaigns, focusing on the movement "Former Youth Volunteers set a good example in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", the emulation "Former Youth Volunteers do many good deeds, for the sake of comradeship"... Along with that, the association will strengthen propaganda and education on revolutionary traditions, instill patriotism and noble ideals in the younger generation; coordinate with departments, branches, unions and socio-political organizations to effectively implement gratitude activities, care for the material and spiritual lives of members...
The 75-year glorious tradition of the Vietnam Youth Volunteer Force is a source of pride, a historical value and an immortal spirit that needs to be continued and promoted. The persistent contributions and silent sacrifices of generations of Youth Volunteers, including former Youth Volunteers of Ha Nam, are always a source of encouragement and reminder for today's generation to live more responsibly, together building a rich, beautiful and civilized homeland and country.
