Vietnam International Digital Week 2024: Opportunity to promote AI application and global digital cooperation

VIDW 2024 is the largest-ever event, with 12 official events and side events; attracting about 600 domestic and international delegates, including leaders of state management agencies from nearly 30 countries, representatives of international organizations and leading technology enterprises.

Vietnam commits to developing open-source AI, promoting global digital cooperation

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the International Digital Week 2024, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said: Within the framework of the International Digital Week 2024, Vietnam focuses on discussing the topic of Personal and Organizational Virtual Assistants , applying the breakthrough potential of AI technology in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This is an opportunity for governments , international organizations and businesses to share experiences and promote cooperation.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized the role of AI: AI is the core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. AI does not replace humans, but supports and empowers, helping us do our jobs better, freeing us from uncreative tasks that take a lot of effort and time, so that humans can focus on their best work, which is creativity.

Each individual, each organization must build its own virtual assistant, based on its own data and knowledge and used for its own purposes.

Vietnam is committed to developing open-source AI, creating a foundation for global cooperation and sustainable development. Initiatives to develop private virtual assistants, based on data and knowledge of individuals and organizations, are expected to create new steps in digital transformation.

"AI is a new concept for all of us, so cooperation is the best way to go far together," Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.

According to the Minister, the annual International Digital Week will be a good opportunity for governments, international organizations, associations and global digital businesses to establish and expand digital partnerships, promoting our cooperation for a sustainable digital world .

Quang Ninh – Destination of innovation and international cooperation

Speaking at the International Digital Week 2024, Mr. Dang Xuan Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, emphasized the role of innovation in liberating resources and promoting economic growth. With synchronous investment, Quang Ninh has become the leading province in the Northern Delta region in digital transformation, maintaining a double-digit economic growth rate for 9 consecutive years (2015–2023).

The province identifies the digital economy as the foundation to promote new growth, resolve bottlenecks and enhance competitiveness. Quang Ninh aims for the digital economy to account for 35% of GRDP by 2030, playing a key role in the economic structure.

The International Digital Week held in Quang Ninh is an opportunity for the province to exchange and approach management agencies, associations, and businesses of ASEAN countries and major dialogue countries in the development of information technology, digital transformation, and digital infrastructure development from international experts and organizations; Learn and share experiences in issues of policy making, development strategies, technology, human resources, establish cooperative partnerships, propose solutions to major challenges and opportunities to promote AI applications for fields in the digital age in the ASEAN region and the world in general and Quang Ninh in particular, contributing to introducing products and services, attracting investment and establishing cooperative relationships between Quang Ninh and domestic and foreign information technology and digital transformation partners.

VIDW 2024: Diversify connectivity activities and promote digital cooperation

Within the framework of VIDW 2024, the Plenary Session is a Roundtable event for government representatives, international organizations and industry leaders to exchange views, enhance cooperation and promote partnerships between Vietnamese businesses and global stakeholders. The Roundtable will focus on the topic of virtual assistant applications, emphasizing the potential for closer cooperation and developing innovative, cross-sectoral solutions. Along with strategic discussions, sharing visions about the future of digital technology, the role of virtual assistants in promoting economic growth and improving national governance capacity, towards sustainable development goals.

The 5th 5G Conference, which took place right after the Plenary Session, was an initiative of Vietnam, announced by Minister Nguyen Manh Hung at the 2018 ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting, to promote regional coordination on 5G policy, investment, technology development, services and applications. The objective of this Conference is to focus on discussing key priority issues related to the deployment of Open RAN, the legal framework for 5G and advances in technology innovation and ecosystem building. The event will also report on the progress of 5G deployment in ASEAN countries and live demonstrations of real-world 5G applications by ASEAN member countries, dialogue partners and international organizations.

In addition to the activities with the theme "Virtual Assistant", from November 19-22, 2024, the Ministry of Information and Communications will coordinate with ASEAN countries, Korea, Australia, the United States and international organizations such as ITU, OECD to organize specialized forums with different topics: International Forum on Digital Strategy, Policy and AI Governance; International Forum on Digital Strategy, Policy and AI Governance; ASEAN Information Officers' Meeting (SOMRI); ASEAN Workshop on Trusted Services; Workshop on New Generation License-Free Technologies for Digital Economic Development; International Digital Investment Forum; International Forum on Digital Connection; Vietnam - OECD Conference on Digital Human Resource Development; Vietnam - Korea Digital Transformation Forum; Vietnam - ITU Conference on AI Governance and AI Applications in Industrial Sectors and organize the Southeast Asia Hackathon competition...

Currently, Vietnam is prioritizing the development of virtual assistants for each state agency, each agency will have its own virtual assistant, and gradually each civil servant will have a virtual assistant. Vietnam has also prioritized and will continue to prioritize promoting regional and international cooperation initiatives in the fields of digital technology and digital economy, in which priority will be given to cooperation programs on AI, development and use of virtual assistants. Thematic forums will create opportunities for delegates to share good experiences, best practices, both in terms of institutions (sandbox) and practical use cases of virtual assistants in many different fields, from many countries around the world.
