Subjective to the dull pain in the thigh
Speaking to Dan Tri newspaper reporters, Master, Doctor Nguyen Duy Anh, an oncology specialist, said that since the beginning of the year, the female patient began to feel dull, persistent pain in her left thigh, lasting about a month.
According to Dr. Duy Anh, the patient's pain especially increases at night and hardly responds to painkillers.

Dr. Duy Anh said that the patient was subjective with the dull pain in the left thigh, only going to the doctor when he had difficulty walking (Photo: Bao Ngoc).
“Because she subjectively thought that the pain was due to sitting at an office for a long time, the patient treated herself without going to see a doctor. It was only when she had difficulty walking that she went to a private clinic.
After taking an X-ray showing suspected bone damage, the patient was transferred to the hospital," Dr. Duy Anh informed.
Here, the patient was assigned to do tests, the MRI results of the left femur showed a malignant tumor measuring 6x9cm that had invaded the bone cortex.
The biopsy confirmed that it was Osteosarcoma. The shock to the patient continued when a chest CT scan showed two lung metastases, measuring 6-9mm.
“After we concluded the patient’s condition, he collapsed. This is understandable when a very young person learns he has cancer,” Dr. Duy Anh shared.
Before enjoying the results, illness struck.
"Coming from a poor family, this patient started to be independent from her first year of university with many part-time jobs. After graduating, she started at the lowest position in human resources, gradually promoted thanks to her diligence.
After nearly 10 years of continuous efforts, the young girl has become the head of human resources, bought a house and a car," Dr. Duy Anh shared.
According to Dr. Duy Anh, the patient is very young, lives independently and has just started a career, so he could not avoid the shock of knowing he has a serious illness.
“We have to spend a lot of time talking privately to reassure and help patients stay optimistic and cooperative throughout the treatment process,” said Dr. Duy Anh.
According to this expert, the results of the interdisciplinary consultation show that the patient is likely to respond well to active treatment.
The protocol was developed including neoadjuvant chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, followed by femoral resection and joint replacement to preserve the limb, then continued adjuvant chemotherapy and close monitoring of lung metastasis.
Be alert for strange signs
According to Dr. Duy Anh, the signs of bone cancer are quite difficult to detect in the early stages and are often overlooked by patients.
These signs often include aching limbs, a dull ache in the bones, especially at night, and weakness in movement.
Only when the tumors begin to progress, symptoms become apparent, such as bone pain spreading to nearby areas, swelling at the painful site, bones becoming brittle, and hard lymph nodes in the long bones of the limbs can be felt.
Along with the above warning signs are symptoms such as always feeling tired and unexplained weight loss.
From the case of the female patient, Dr. Duy Anh once again warned about the trend of cancer becoming younger.
“Patients often tend to ignore unusual symptoms of the body and think that they are just common diseases. Along with that, there is a fear of going to the hospital for examination, not regularly going for screening for fear of discovering serious diseases,” said Dr. Duy Anh.
