140 years ago, responding to the Can Vuong Proclamation, patriot Le Trung Dinh led a successful uprising in Quang Ngai , demonstrating a proactive and determined spirit of fighting the enemy and being deeply attached to the people.
Ms. Pham Thi Trung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, said: "Commemorating the sacrifice of patriot Le Trung Dinh is not only a way of expressing gratitude and remembrance, but also an opportunity for us to arouse national pride, strengthen our belief in the path of innovation and development of the country with the spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, and rising to master our own destiny."

Le Trung Dinh was born in 1857 in Phu Nhuan village, Binh Son district (now Truong Quang Trong ward, Quang Ngai), into a family of scholars. He passed the Bachelor's exam in 1884 but did not become an official, but recruited young people, established a base in Tuyen Tung mountain to prepare for an uprising against the French.
In 1885, responding to King Ham Nghi's Can Vuong edict, Le Trung Dinh organized the first Can Vuong force from the provinces south of Hue capital, turning Quang Ngai into the center of the patriotic movement.

On July 13, 1885, he and more than 3,000 soldiers attacked and occupied Quang Ngai citadel at night, established a new government, pacified the people, and appointed officials. He planned to expand his forces and advance to liberate the capital city of Hue.
However, after 5 days of controlling the citadel, the insurgents were ambushed by the rebel forces of the Righteous Association. Le Trung Dinh was captured, resolutely refused to submit and was beheaded by the French colonialists on July 23, 1885 in the north of Quang Ngai citadel.
