As the host team of the tournament, the Vietnamese women's team will be placed in Group A and numbered A1. The opponents of coach Mai Duc Chung and his team were also determined at the group draw ceremony held on the morning of June 9. Accordingly, in Group A, the Vietnamese women's team will face Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia. The remaining group includes the Philippines, Myanmar, Australia and Timor-Leste. The presence of the Philippine women's team and the Australian women's team in Group B is considered the group of death.
The teams participating in this year's tournament are determined based on the achievements of previous AFF Cups. Accordingly, Indonesia and Cambodia are the two teams present thanks to passing the qualifying round taking place from November 23 to December 5, 2024 in Cambodia. The Timor-Leste women's team was given the opportunity when the Singapore women's team confirmed their withdrawal. Australia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam do not need to play in the group stage.
According to the format, the teams in the two groups will compete in a round-robin format. The two teams with the best results in each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The 2025 AFF Women's Cup will take place from August 6 to 19, 2025 at two stadiums, Viet Tri and Lach Tray.
In 12 editions, the Thai women's team is the team with the best record with 4 championships. The team from the land of the golden pagodas was crowned in 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's team has 3 championships, in 2006, 2012, 2019 respectively.
