(CPV) - On the afternoon of September 22, the Vietnamese women's team easily defeated the Nepal women's team with a score of 2-0 in the opening match of Group D, women's football at the 19th ASIAD.
Although they were considered much stronger than their opponents, the Vietnamese girls still had a lot of difficulty in launching attacks. The Nepalese team pulled their formation back to the middle of the field and there was very little space for the Vietnamese players to exploit to approach the goal. After the first 45 minutes of the match, the Vietnamese women's team could not score an opening goal.
In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung decided to send Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha and Ngan Thi Van Su onto the field to strengthen the attack. The substitution brought a more fluid playing style to the Vietnamese women's team.
The deadlock was broken in the 53rd minute. Bich Thuy shot hard from the 16m50 line, the Nepalese goalkeeper could not catch it and Hai Yen quickly rushed in to score from a narrow angle to open the score for the Vietnamese women's team.
Ten minutes later, coach Mai Duc Chung's students continued to score. Duong Thi Van assisted Bich Thuy to head the ball into Nepal's net to double the gap.
After two goals, the Vietnamese women's team continued to play proactively. Nepal had a few counterattacks but did not pose any threat to the Vietnamese defense. Hai Yen and her teammates had more opportunities but could not take advantage to score more goals.
In the end, the Vietnamese women's team won 2-0 against Nepal. With this victory, coach Mai Duc Chung's team temporarily leads Group D, women's football at the 19th ASIAD.
The Vietnamese women's team will enter the second match against the Bangladesh women's team at 3:00 p.m. on September 25. According to the tournament's regulations, the 5 group winners and 3 best second-placed teams will qualify for the quarter-finals./.
