Ipswich Town young striker Delap could join Chelsea for £30m. |
Chelsea are leading the race as Delap is said to have completed a medical to officially join the Stamford Bridge club. The transfer fee is said to be £30m – a release clause due to Ipswich Town’s relegation.
Delap had an impressive performance in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season with 12 goals. Although he could not help Ipswich stay in the league, he was still in the sights of a series of big clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United.
However, many experts believe that Arsenal should be the team to recruit the 22-year-old player. Former player Lee Hendrie commented: "Arsenal are lacking a real striker. Delap is young, cheap, and has Premier League experience. This is a deal that does not require much thought."
Legendary Adebayo Akinfenwa was even more scathing: “I don’t understand why Arsenal didn’t pounce when Ipswich were relegated. £30m is a bargain. A striker with the style of Diego Costa, full of fire and grit – Arsenal missed out on a gem.”
Although he has not officially signed a contract, Delap is showing that he is one of the rare deals this summer. If he joins Chelsea, he promises to be the number 9 that "The Blues" have been looking for many years.
