A film depicting the tumultuous period at OpenAI, when co-founder and CEO Sam Altman was fired and reappointed within five days in November 2023, is reportedly in production.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film revolving around the story of a power struggle at the company behind the chatbot ChatGPT will be titled "Artificial" and is being developed at Amazon MGM Studios.
While details about the project have yet to be revealed, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Luca Guadagnino, best known for Call Me by Your Name and Challengers , is in talks to direct.
Additionally, the studio is considering actor Andrew Garfield to play Altman, Monica Barbaro to play former CTO Mira Murati, and Yura Borisov is being linked to the role of Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder who pushed for Altman's ouster.
Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich is said to be writing the script, a sign that the film will likely incorporate comedic elements.
In 2015, Mr. Sutskever was one of CEO Sam Altman's effective partners in founding OpenAI and creating the famous ChatGPT chatbot. However, he was also one of four board members who agreed to fire Altman in November 2023 due to a lack of transparency in the leadership process.
However, Altman was reinstated as CEO after five days of turmoil, which prompted Sutskever and two other directors to leave the board. Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati later announced her resignation to seek "space to explore on her own."
