Comrade Le Hong Phong's real name is Le Huy Doan, born in 1902 in Thong Lang commune (now Hung Thong commune), Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province, in a peasant family. Born and raised in a rural area with a tradition of patriotism, with many famous scholars, witnessing with his own eyes the country's misery, the oppressed and exploited working people, Le Hong Phong soon nurtured in himself the ideology of patriotism and the will to make a revolution.
In 1925, Le Hong Phong joined the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association and attended a revolutionary cadre training course organized by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, becoming one of the first cadres of the Vietnamese revolution to be equipped with the theory of Marxism-Leninism.
In early 1932, comrade Le Hong Phong established contact with comrades Hoang Dinh Giong, Hoang Van Thu, Hoang Van Non, and Luong Van Chi in Nanning City, Guangxi (China) and rebuilt the Party's organizational system. In June 1932, Le Hong Phong discussed with the Party's leaders to announce the Party's Action Program, which he participated in drafting and was approved by the Communist International.
In March 1934, comrade Le Hong Phong became Secretary of the Party's Overseas Leadership Committee (also known as the Party's Overseas Command Committee), preparing conditions to organize the Party's First Congress.
At the end of 1934, Le Hong Phong led the Party delegation to attend the 7th Congress of the Communist International in Moscow (Soviet Union) from July 25 to August 21, 1935. At the same time, in March 1935, the 1st Congress of the Party took place successfully, comrade Le Hong Phong (elected in absentia) as General Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of the Indochinese Communist Party.
In November 1937, Comrade Le Hong Phong returned to the country and secretly operated in Saigon, directly leading the revolutionary movement in the new situation with the Party Central Committee. In March 1938, he attended the Party Central Committee Conference, contributing to the establishment of the Indochinese Democratic United Front to fight against fascism, the sabotage activities of the Trotskyites and the isolated, narrow-minded, leftist tendencies within the Party.
On June 22, 1939, Comrade Le Hong Phong was arrested for the first time by the French colonialists in Cho Lon, sentenced to 6 months in prison and 3 years of house arrest. On December 23, 1939, they brought him back to his hometown in Nghe An for house arrest. On January 20, 1940, he was arrested for the second time by the French colonialists and imprisoned in the Big Prison, Saigon; at the end of 1940, they exiled him to Con Dao. Here, knowing that Le Hong Phong was a high-ranking Party leader, the French colonialists found every way to torture and torment him. In the face of the enemy's cruelty and savagery, he still upheld his revolutionary spirit, actively mobilized and directed his fellow prisoners to fight against the enemy's beatings and against the harsh prison rules. His health gradually deteriorated due to revenge and illness, and he said goodbye to his brothers and comrades at noon on September 6, 1942. Before leaving, comrade Le Hong Phong also advised: " Please tell the Party that, until the last moment, Le Hong Phong still firmly believed in the glorious victory of the revolution ."
The 120th anniversary of Comrade Le Hong Phong's birth takes place at a time when our entire Party, people and army are comprehensively promoting the cause of innovation and international integration; actively implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, resolutions on Party building, such as: Resolution of the 4th Central Committee, 11th and 12th tenures and Conclusion No. 21-KL/TW dated October 25, 2021 of the 4th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee on promoting Party building and rectification and the political system; resolutely preventing, repelling and strictly handling cadres and Party members who have degraded in political ideology, ethics, lifestyle, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" . This is an opportunity for us to respectfully and gratefully acknowledge the great contributions of comrade Le Hong Phong to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation , and at the same time promote propaganda and political, ideological, moral and lifestyle education for cadres, party members and the people; thereby consolidating and fostering the people's trust in the Party, the State and the socialist regime.
Learning from and following the example of comrade Le Hong Phong and other revolutionary predecessors, cadres and party members, especially leaders of Party committees, heads of agencies and units, upholding the spirit of responsibility, self-cultivation, training revolutionary ethics, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland and the People, always putting the interests of the nation and people above all, first and foremost, ready to contribute and sacrifice for the noble revolutionary cause of the Party and the People with the spirit of "impartiality", as President Ho Chi Minh affirmed during his lifetime: "Our comrades such as comrade Tran Phu, comrade Ngo Gia Tu, comrade Le Hong Phong, comrade Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, comrade Ha Huy Tap, comrade Nguyen Van Cu, comrade Hoang Van Thu and hundreds of thousands of other comrades have put the interests of the Party, of the revolution, of the class, of the nation above all, first and foremost. Those comrades have deeply and firmly believed in the great force and glorious future of the class and of the nation...." We must all follow those heroic and impartial examples to be worthy of being revolutionaries."
