- Every year, thousands of Lang Son students come to Hanoi to study, bringing with them youthful dreams of their first steps into independent life in a strange city. In that journey, the Lang Son Student Association in Hanoi becomes a spiritual support, a common home full of sharing and attachment for those far from home.
Established in 2013, the Lang Son Student Association in Hanoi is currently an official member of the National Volunteer Center - National Volunteer Network in the Northern region. Initially with only a few dozen members, the association now has more than 50 official members and over 300 volunteers regularly working at universities such as: Foreign Trade University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Academy of Finance, Hanoi National University, Hanoi Open University, etc.
The Association's continuous activities aim to support Lang Son students to quickly integrate into life, study effectively, develop comprehensively and contribute back to their homeland through career guidance programs, volunteering and journeys back to the source.
La Thi Kim Oanh from Loc Binh district, currently a second-year student at Hanoi University of Culture, recalls: In the first days of coming to Hanoi, I was very confused. Thanks to the enthusiastic help of the members of the association, I found a place to stay near the school, learned how to take the bus, call a technology car, find cheap places to eat and tips for living in the city. The members also gave me a very useful student map. Thanks to that, I soon settled down and confidently participated in community activities. I am currently a member of the Organizing Committee of the program 'When I am 18' in 2025 hosted by the association.
Not only Kim Oanh, up to now, after more than a decade of operation (2013-2025), the association has supported more than 1,200 students through consulting, learning support and community connection activities. In particular, volunteer programs and journeys to the source in difficult communes such as Lam Ca (Dinh Lap), Thien Hoa (Binh Gia), Lien Hoi (Van Quan), Huu Lien (Huu Lung) ... attracted more than 500 members to participate, the association gave nearly 1,000 gifts to poor students, and joined hands to clean up the environment. These actions, though small, bring profound human values, contributing to connecting fellow countrymen and spreading the spirit of volunteerism of Lang Son youth.
In addition to volunteer activities, the Lang Son Student Association in Hanoi also organizes summer activities in localities such as Hoi Hoan (Van Lang), Cao Minh (Trang Dinh), San Vien (Loc Binh)... with the content of training life skills, legaleducation , comprehensive development, attracting about 500 - 1,000 young people each year. In particular, the program "When I am 18", the annual highlight of the Association, has reached nearly 5,000 students from high schools in Van Quan, Cao Loc, Huu Lung, Bac Son districts... through admissions counseling and career orientation activities.
After participating in the program "When I am 18" in 2025, Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a 12th grade student at Bac Son High School, shared: The program helped me have a clearer orientation on the importance of the high school exam and choosing the right career I love. The seniors were very close, shared many experiences of studying in the capital and inspired me to pass the exam to fly higher and further.
It is known that most of the Association’s programs and events are designed, planned, organized and funded by students themselves. The operating budget mainly comes from selling local specialties such as chili bamboo shoots, Trang Dinh black jelly, Loc Binh sweet potatoes, making handmade keychains and calling for sponsorship from businesses. Each year, the average amount of donations is from 30-50 million VND, serving charity trips and major events.
Hoang Thi Anh Thu, a student at Hanoi Open University, shared: Working in the Association's External Relations Department, I learned how to prepare sponsorship documents, write budget plans, and communicate with social organizations. These skills are extremely useful and valuable for future work. Nguyen Luong Diep Anh, President of the Lang Son Student Association in Hanoi, said: The association's "return to the roots" programs are well-prepared, have specific plans, and closely coordinate with local authorities and organizations. After each trip, the association is recognized by the District Youth Union and awarded certificates of merit. This is a motivation for members to continue to connect students far from home, spread the spirit of fellow countrymen, and contribute youth and knowledge to build their homeland. According to the plan, in July 2025, the association will organize the Green Summer program in Van An commune, Chi Lang district, and expand many more meaningful activities.
It can be said that the Lang Son Student Association in Hanoi is becoming an extension of the homeland in the capital, a place to connect fellow countrymen, foster aspirations and spread responsibility to the community. From each career orientation and volunteer activity to the journeys back to the highlands, young people are writing a beautiful story about the spirit of "going to return", about a generation of Lang Son students full of passion, living with ideals and constantly striving for their homeland.
