Vietnam team gathers 30 players for friendly match with Syria

Today, June 18, the Vietnamese team traveled to Nam Dinh to prepare for an international friendly match with the Syrian team within the framework of FIFA Days in June 2023. Before departing for Thanh Nam, coach Philippe Troussier also shortened the list to 30 players.

The match with Syria will be an important "practice" for the Vietnamese team.

Accordingly, the French coach retained 21 out of 23 players on the list registered to play in the recent match against Hong Kong (China), and at the same time selected to add 6 Vietnamese national team players and 3 U23 Vietnam players who did not play in the Hong Kong match to the list to prepare for the match against Syria.

Specifically, 6 additional Vietnamese players were selected, including goalkeeper Tran Minh Toan, defender Vu Van Thanh, Bui Tien Dung, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Van Toan, and Nham Manh Dung. 3 players in the U23 Vietnam squad were given the opportunity to join the national team, including goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, midfielder Nguyen Thai Son, and Nguyen Duc Phu. Thus, in addition to the 4 players retained after the match against Hong Kong, defender Phan Tuan Tai, midfielder Khuat Van Khang, Hoang Van Toan, and striker Nguyen Van Tung, the U23 Vietnam squad included in the list to prepare for the match against the Syrian team is 7 players.

Also today, the group of Vietnamese national team and U23 Vietnam players whose names were not on the list preparing for the match with the Syrian team were returned to their clubs, ending the training session in June 2023.

The upcoming match at Thien Truong Stadium will be the first time in 7 years that the Vietnamese team will meet the Syrian team again. In 2016, the Vietnamese team won against Syria at My Dinh Stadium with a score of 2-0. Now, 7 years later, Syria and Vietnam are both teams in the top 15 in Asia. The West Asian team attaches special importance to the friendly match with the Vietnamese team when they arrived in Hanoi early on June 12 to practice and get used to the weather conditions. Therefore, the reunion on June 20 will be a battle of wits and equal strength between the two teams, promising to bring an exciting match to the large audience in Thanh Nam in particular and the whole country in general.
