These documents emphasize the management of high-risk behaviors such as: strictly prohibiting the use of drugs and alcohol while driving; complying with speed limits and recommending slower driving; wearing helmets on motorbikes and scooters; wearing seat belts in cars; using child safety devices in cars and not using phones while driving from January 1, 2026.
According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, the National Traffic Safety Committee considers cycling and walking as two green and sustainable modes of transportation, therefore improving traffic safety for walking and cycling will help improve people's quality of life.
However, in Vietnam, walking and cycling trips account for a relatively low proportion (less than 1%), while in many developed countries this proportion is up to 10-20%. In the coming time, the National Traffic Safety Committee will closely coordinate with ministries and localities to promote walking and cycling activities.
